I changed to a 15T several months ago, very happy with the results. Speedo seems to be reading about 6-7 mph fast.

Had the TSB/Recall done on my bike a couple of days ago at the dealership. At about 400 miles or so I noticed the noise. I thought it was clutch related, as the noise would almost go away when the clutch was pulled in at idle and after the engine warmed up. I mention the noise at first service and they said it was normal, and not to be concerned about it. I know have 10K miles on the bike and after having this done, that noise has gone away. It's very quite now at idle and pulling in the clutch only slightly changes the noise now. Big improvement, just hope it lasts. Seems pulling in the clutch was changing the load on the idling engine enough that the noise would subside until it was let out.

Can the xsr900 slip and assist clutch be used on the FJ?

That's why it's an assist AND slipper clutch. -
Can the xsr900 slip and assist clutch be used on the FJ?

That's obviously correct, but the assist part makes the clutch effort lighter. That's why it feels easier and smoother in comparison. -
How many miles on your FJ?

9000 so far at 12 months. No issues at this point. Fun bike, really enjoying it. -
I saw a video that showed the new slip and assist clutch from a new FJR1300 being installed Into and older model FJR. Looked like a straigh forward install. Got me thinking about a similar scenario for the FJ-09. I have sat on a XSR in the showroom and the clutch pull was much easier than on the FJ. Just curious if anyone's looked into this or had access to parts catalogs for both to see what's needed and if it's doable.

Passenger back rest options.

That Looks like the way to go if you don't run a top box. I planned on adding a rack anyway. Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. -
Passenger back rest options.

I've been looking around and on line for something generally close so I can modify or adapt it to the bike. The FJR one looks like an adaptable option. Still researching, but I'll come up with something, even if it's made from scratch. Possibly a rear rack modded so a backrest can be bolted to it. -
Anyone found a simple back rest that can be fitted to the FJ09 without adding a top box or a custom Corbin seat for the passenger? I've seen them for the FJR,they mount to the luggage rack. Just looking to add something so the misses feels more secure. As of now I don't really need a top box, unless that's the only option.

I'm confident they fit both. I don't believe they've taken the time to re-label the webpage yet. If you look at the Shogun and the Graves slider websites they have re-labeled as fitting both. They use the same mounting points. http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/graves-frame-sliders-yamaha-fz-09-fj-09 http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/shogun-frame-sliders-yamaha-fz-09-fj-09 What I'm not positive about (though I believe it's most likely true) is whether the OES fork sliders and swingarm sliders fit the same on the FJ as the FZ-09. I emails OES before buying mine and they said FZ and FJ were the same ones. I bought mine on eBay as listed for a FZ09, works just fine on the FJ09

I have the OES sliders and they do work as a highway foot rest on longer rides. As far as drop protection goes, my bike was recently knock over onto its left side in a parking lot by a careless driver. The OES frame slider never touched the ground. The left hand guard and left engine cover over the stator hit the ground and took all the abuse. The left front axle slider got a little scuffed also. After I get the stator cover replaced I'll be installing engine case covers or case sliders. I'll still retain the OES frame sliders for added protection in case of a crash at speed and also as my highway foot rests!

Switched to Rotella T-6 at 2200 miles, the gear whine has definitely gotten quieter, but it still makes itself known.

Ordered one today.

Now have 2500 miles. Going to T-6 and a k&n 204 filter tomorrow I get a good deal on T-6 thru work.

Going to drop the stock screen down 2 inches by drilling new holes for a lower position and will also add the 1/2" spacers underneath to raise it up a bit off the bodywork. The lowest position seems to be the best for me, hoping the additional drop will be the sweet spot. Update. So the stock screen in this configuration is better than before but still pretty loud. The air flow seems to hit me right above the visor. Less head buffeting for sure but still loud. Did a 250 mile ride today. Glad I brought the ear plugs. Seems the screen needs to be really short or really tall. I'm coming off a naked aprilia, I'd say the wind noise is worse on the FJ. Maybe I'll take it off all together for a day and see how that goes.
