  1. "Beak-it, beak-it real good, dun-du-dun-du-dun-dun,d,d,d,d,d dun..."
  2. I personally don't want to chance it. So the general consensus seems to be "err on the side of caution", ok, cool but that eats up play money vs. the alternative of just riding it out. Observed evidence for me is a plugged tire works just fine, anyone have first-hand experience of a plugged tire failing?
  3. What's the general concensus on riding tubeless tires with a plug? I've personally picked up screws/nails on 2 fresh-ish tires, plugged them and then rode 3-4k miles until replacement.
  4. "Stealth grey" you say... (rofl)
  5. Good call Bobdog, I took the Luray-Warrenton roads this weekend too, except i was in the car, not the bike, and thought the same thing, great roads! Saw a bunch of bikes, especially ADV and Sport Touring, no FJ's though I would have obviously noticed!
  6. The Givi radiator guard looks like a great piece of kit, I especially appreciate the discrete branding, as opposed to the large logos on other brands that distract from the bikes design!
  7. Whoa whoa whoa, I ride, every single day! Only thing that ever stops me is snow or ice! hehe okay yeah that wasn't fair, let me re-phrase that; In my experience from when I lived in NoVA, I didn't have time to ride! (rofl)
  8. dvinny13, yes VA has some great roads, maybe you don't see many bikes because this state differs vastly from rural areas near where you are, where you probably see a few cruisers, to where I am in Hampton Roads, a lot of military and govt. so loads of sports and cruiser bikes, to Richmond where they have a large retro/cafe and adventure scene, to Northern Virginia (suburbs of D.C.) where people don't really have time to ride. Let us know when you return with the FJ!
  9. Here's one from a camping trip last weekend, not full-on, kinda an angle but you can see the width (that's what she said):
  10. I doubt anyone has done this, since it would leave the radiator exposed to debris.
  11. Wouldn't be able to tell you if it's normal, because I don't think I ever accelerate heavily from a stop into a turn. Can you give an example? It's certainly not normal for 70% acceleration in a straight line.
  12. Did some motocamping in Gore, VA this weekend with some Triumph friends, the gray Bonnie is the new 1200 version. First time really taking the FJ on fire trails, it handled everything in it's stride and carried a full set of camping gear effortlessly.
  13. Yes, it is perfectly fine in that range. The beak is also functional, as well as aesthetic, although it doesn't create a noticeable down force at high speeds, or protect the rider and headlight from debris and splashes, or even increase the efficiency of the engine by channeling more airflow into the radiator...where this product really shines is standing a drink on at the gas station/camping, and placing your tools on when working on the bike!
  14. Your bike looks great! My observation since installing this simple mod is it's the difference between Joe Schmoe at the traffic light asking "is that a crotch rocket?" and "is that a BMW?", which I'm fine with! Edit: No offence to Mr. Schmoe, I'm sure he's a great person!
  15. I tried the same thing, although only opened the rear of the can, not the whole system. Steel is not too thick and it bends easily. However, it is lined with another layer of perforated steel though, so when you bend it back the two pieces have distorted so that it mis-aligns the surfaces.
  16. They work as long as you don't like rim tape, since there's no possible combination of rim tape options that looks good on blurple.
  17. Modified the stock exhaust, see "Inside the FJ Muffler" thread for write-up: http://fj-09.org/thread/556/inside-fj-muffler?page=14
  18. Modded the stock exhaust on my 2016 FJ-09 this weekend following the directions already provided so far in this excellent thread! Highlights: • Removed and re-installed without removing the center stand—key to this is to un-screw the radiator hoses (two screws, takes 2 mins) as pictured below. This frees up the manifold for easier maneuvering. • Opened chamber and removed the “s-curve” pipe with a 4” cut-off tool • Added extra hole from the cat chamber into the rear chamber with a 1 ½” hole saw • Outlet pipe kept stock, ECU stock • Got a friend to weld it back up Very happy with the mod, it’s a much deeper tone and overall a little louder, but not too much to make it obnoxious. Feels like it removes some of the jerkiness a little too in A and STD modes. No pop on decel, but does give a nice rumble that wasn’t there before. Time: 3-4 hours Cost: If you have the tools and can weld, $0
  19. Edit: Disregard my last post broheim, my second one came in the mail I realized how you must be using it, and it works great! Thanks for posting a much better-priced option!
  20. Decent turn out for a ride from Yorktown, VA to Bikes at the Bottom in Richmond on Sunday. We had a Sportster, Bonnie, Wee Strom, FZ-09, two FJ-09's and a ZR-7S, as always, pics (vid) or it didn't happen: View My Video [video src=http://tinypic.com/r/2rxfl1f/9]
  21. In addition to the bead set (great idea!) you might also find my past post about the Cal Sci DIY seat mod interesting: caferacer Avatar Jun 9, 2016 20:47:43 GMT -4 caferacer said: Modified the stock rider and passenger seats with memory foam as per California Scientific's instruction guide found here: http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Seats.html First try left some visible edges under the seat cover, so I went back and smoothed the edges with scissors and added some duct tape to the seams: http://i64.tinypic.com/b7i3wh.jpg Looks stock, but the memory foam makes a great improvement, not by adding support, but by relieving some of the pressure! Note: I'd recommend ordering the foam from Cal Sci, or another source you know, I initially ordered some from www. Foam Online. com, but they sent me extra soft tempur foam instead of extra firm.
  22. Swoody, I must have just missed you, I was looking around for a place to stop and get a coffee, I saw that little bistro place across the canal, but no red effjay!
  23. Glad you got to get out to the BRP, rain hampered most of my riding plans this weekend, although I did get out for a quick coffee run to Richmond on sat:
