  1. I also really like new Dunlop RS3's. Their profile holds turns more naturally, they feel sticky on dry road and did fine in thunderstorm, and most importantly they don't slide around on dirt roads like my old PR4s. Note I ride with 33/36 cold pressures.
  2. I had PR4's for 10k miles and loved them dry and wet, but hated them on any kind of gravel or fireroad. If you ride enough you're going to hit those, so I updated to Roadsmart III instead of PR5. They went through a highway thunderstorm ok and I can confirm handle better on dirt, but aren't a real 80/20 tire. The real difference I feel compared to PR4 is how they lean in and hold lines easier in turns. That was disconcerting at first because you've got to keep light pressure with PR4's, but now I like them better in twisties.
  3. First ride with Kev's O2 Controller, low rpms and constant speeds are much smoother in all modes. Highly recommended!
  4. Thanks for the tip about sprocket nuts. I haven't installed yet because further digging has convinced me the problem is O2 sensor, which a "kev mod" can address as well as an ECU flash.
  5. Just ordered rear sprocket, I'll report back after installing!
  6. I'm wondering if my issue could be due to rear sprocket unevenness. I got a new chain when the old chain got stiff and its slack changed as I rotated rear wheel, but I'm seeing the same slack change with the new chain and it's definitely related to the sprocket rotation not the chain section. It isn't much--a difference of 3/16" vertical travel in the middle of the bottom chain--but could that be causing some hitchiness? The hitchiness also goes away at a given rpm if I'm applying rear brakes while keeping throttle on, just like it does when I'm accelerating, indicating the engine or chain are ok if there's enough load.
  7. I'm not usually in 3rd then, but even 1st and 2nd are jerky trying to hold a constant speed 20-40 mph. I'm always accelerating or decelerating or feathering to keep smooth, which is a pain in the city until I hit open road. At constant speed feels like engine can't relax, is always pulling or pushing, even on highway. New chain helped but can still feel it.
  8. Old thread but curious did TB sync or ECU flash helped your FJ? I have the exact same issue, seems to have developed slowly. I'm at 12k miles and tried tightening then replacing chain, but my rpms and travel are still jerky in the 2-3k range at constant speed. 3rd gear around 22 mph is the worst.
  9. Which one did you get? A Chinese rotary one that fit MT-09. Have spent a week commuting with it, keeps the bike planted through rough roads and wind and passing. Also it's made acceleration and braking seem smoother, before I must've had to focus more on holding the line then.
  10. Got a CalSci short screen for some wind in my face this summer. It's not as smooth air as being hunched over on a sportbike, but pretty close. Easy to switch with the CalSci medium + XCreen deflector I have for colder weather and longer rides.
  11. You make a good point.. Exactly. Getting the wife on board means more riding. No better backrest now, and two things I like about it: very adjustable which was a concern for fixed mount point, and very easy to remove/install for regular 1up.
  12. Added Sargent EM-5 backrest Other farkles: Heated grips Calsci medium shield Xcreen touring deflector Reflective rim tape Aduro UGRIP phone holder
  13. Like the tape, where'd you find that pattern? Also digging the tires. Did you notice much a ride difference with them?
  14. pattonme, thanks I'll be on the lookout for middle tire wear. At 34 psi my back tire was definitely getting rounded wear during break-in, much more than my front tire at 33 psi. My commute is mostly straight bumpy roads, but the stiffer shocks also help reduce bounce in the curves I find on weekends. I may try another click stiffer on the rear like gkdozer but found that a softer front didn't help my wobble and felt a bit mushier in turns.
  15. pattonme, the rebound clicks are from fully in. Is it dangerous to ride on 35/41 tires if it feels good? Also wanted to see if it improves my gas mileage.
  16. I experienced the wobble this weekend and found this thread to be useful. I'm 175 lb and have hard bags and a medium calsci screen, and can start it easily at speeds above 85 mph by pushing one side of the handlebar. The resulting wobble is about 2 hz and settles after 4 seconds at that speed, but takes longer to settle the faster you go. Increasing my rear shock preload to 5 brought that settle time down to about 2 seconds. I didn't find that anything else helped it, though ended up with stiffer settings all around to improve my ride. My front shock is preload is now at 3 visible rings (was 5.5 rings from the dealer) with 3 clicks of rebound, rear shock preload is 5 with 1 full turn rebound, and tires are 35/41 psi (were 33/34 from the dealer).
  17. Got my calsci medium today. In low position it doesn't block all wind, lets a nice amount of clean air over the top. Comfortable to ride with the helmet shield up, to around 50 mph. Gets a bit noisy at 85 mph but nothing like stock shield. Can duck to avoid noise but will try in high setting tomorrow. UPDATE: high position blocks most of the wind at low and high speeds, no need to duck (I'm 5'10" with 32" inseam). Will be perfect for cold weather.
  18. I've put about 400 miles on my new FJ09, and just ordered a CalSci medium screen after trying the MRA sport Xcreen. The MRA screen worked great on my old V-Strom but caused the stock FJ screen to shake excessively at highway speeds. A lot of folks here have tried the short and tall CalSci but has anyone tried the medium, which is 1.5" shorter than the tall? I'm 5'10" with 32" inseam and a Schuberth C3.
