  1. I replaced mine at 29,388 miles, some 26 months after I bought the bike. I replaced the original stocker with a Scorpion Stinger LiFepo4 High Output (kinda expensive!) one. The original stock one was beginning to need overnight charging to start. I didn't want to wind up stuck somewhere after a stop with a bike that wouldn't start...
  2. Replaced my old chain and both sprockets. The chain had a single hellacious tight spot that was at about 1/2" play or less, and the rest of the chain was really loose at almost 1.5"+. The rear sprocket was starting to show some wear at the bottoms of the slots. Without looking specifically at it, I figured the front was the same. Replacement was done at 22700 miles and this replaced the original chain and sprockets. Replacements were stockers. With the new chain and sprockets, the bike rides like it was new!
  3. Going either way on US 191 is a great ride, especially if you add in the ride along US 60 from Florence Junction to Show Low. I've gone that way myself, and I have to admit that I like it better when I start in the south from Morenci and head north to Springerville and Show Low. It just works better for me, since the more technical curves are mostly south of Hanagan Meadow, when I'm fresher. Mostly sweepers north of there. A pretty good extension to that ride is to push it east from Alpine, AZ over to US 180 in New Mexico and head south and then west on NM 78 till it curves you back into Arizona south of Clifton/Morenci. Congrats - sounds like a long day...
  4. For normal southern Arizona summer heat (95 to 105 or so), I use either a T-shirt plus a pair of LDComfort sleeves or an LDComfort long sleeve/high collar shirt. Over that, I'll wear my First Gear TPG coat. This is NOT a mesh coat; it's a vented one. I'll pour water down into the sleeves of the jacket at the wrists (and sometimes down the neck of the jacket if I'm wearing the LDComfort shirts) and open the jacket's wrist vents for air flow. If it gets really hot (110+), I'll add an evaporative vest under the jacket. None of this works too well if the humidity climbs much over 50%, but up till then it's fine. I usually keep a gallon jug of water in a side bag during the summer months. In summer I wear the RoadGear mesh gloves because they aren't as tight around my hands as most other gloves. I'll wet them down for a little extra shot of cooling sometimes. The only thing with the RoadGear gloves is that they're black - not the best summertime color...
  5. Today, aside from spending a lot on washing machine repair for our broken washing machine and waiting for the repair guy to meet his "scheduled" appointment of between noon and 6PM, I figured out that the connection for the clutch sensor switch wasn't connected. That's the one that allows the bike to be started if the bike's in gear already as long as the clutch lever is pulled in. It was just barely sitting in the socket under the handlebar on the clutch side, but was NOT actually connected. A long, thin screwdriver and a couple of pushes took care of that (couldn't get a finger in there, but the screwdriver did the deed fine). Hey, presto! Bike starts in gear with the clutch lever pulled in just fine, now.
