This is simply "negative switching". Not a common method, but my all means not entirely unusual. If you were to connect your power feed to your lights the green/s, then the "earth" from your lights to the yellow - they will function correctly.

Boots are a real personal fit. Unfortunately many people buy what they think is cool, rather than what fits properly. I have an A* foot shape. Many other brands just aren't right for me. Result = boot is too loose. My winter and touring boot is the SMX6 Goretex. Summer (around-town only) I use the SMX1 shoe.
