I went from a Multistrada to the Tracer GT.  Two very different bikes technology/weight/power wise.

Have been very happy with the "lesser" bike.

Funny.. I went from a FJ-09 to a Multistrada. I loved my FJ. Still think the CP3 motor is the best motorcycle motor I've ever experienced. However, the suspension on my Multi ('18 1260 S) is miles better.

To be honest I love both bikes.

To the OP. The Tracer is one of the best bang for your buck bikes out there.  If my current Ducati starts giving me reliability issues, I wouldn't hesitate to go back to a Tracer.

Agreed... traded my '15 FJ-09 in for a Multistrada 1260s and I'm still around and contribute from time to time.

I hope you enjoy your GS. Great bikes. Feel free to drop in and help a forum member with advice if you see fit.

  3. I have some random parts that I came across. Anyone on the forum can have them for free, but you gotta pay shipping. All items will be going to recycling or the dump in the next week or two.... so let me know if any of you want them.

    - Barkbuster Storm (plastics only), honestly can't remember if I used them but they are in excellent condition.

    - Barkbuster Blizzard, used in excellent condition (mounting hardware included)

    - Akropovic Db Killer insert

    - OEM exhaust off a '15. Probably has 2000 miles on it... a little surface rust on the headers will need to be polished off.  I am going to scrap it but thought I would see if anyone here wants it first.

  4. Chain specs in manual are too tight in most people's opinion.

I agree with @skipperT...if isn't making noise don't worry about the CCT.

However, If it starts to make noise (it's a clacking type noise most noticeable at startup) just replace it with a manual tensioner. I had my '15 CCT replaced under the TSB and it only lasted about 3 months before making noise again. Put an APE manual tensioner on it and never had an issue after that.

I'm south too (Locust Grove).  From everything I've heard about MMS Roswell since getting the Monster, avoid them.  While I haven't been a WOW fan in the past, from what I've heard, all/most of Mark's crew from DucShop have migrated to WOW.  When it's time for service on my Monster.

I too chose the newer 1200 over the 1100 for the extended service intervals.

Well shit... I bought the service package as it will pay for itself after 9000 more miles. Guess I will let MMS Roswell do the next service, but take it to the Ducshop if I have other issues.

Hey @duhs10 - Any initial thoughts on the new-to-you Multistrada?   I suspect it will be an amazingly competent motorcycle.

Unfortunately the day after purchasing it I tested positive for COVID... so I was quarantined in the basement for almost a week and haven't had much time in the saddle.

However I was able to take 1 ride on it for about an hour...

    Initial thoughts...

    - Multistrada OEM Seat is WAY more comfortable than OEM FJ (no surprise).

    - Seating position and handlebar position is very similar.

    - On paper it has significantly more power, however in the seat it doesn't feel much faster than the FJ.  It does have a little more tractor feel to the bottom in, but it really prefers to be above 4000 RPM.

    - Engine not as smooth, but not as high frequency. So there are vibrations (it is a 1262cc twin) but not buzzy like the triple was.

    - I got the S model so it has the Skyhook active suspension. Feels fantastic. Smooth, stable, easily adjustable.

    - Quick shifter is fantastic.

    - Also LOVE the bronze wheels.

    Some negatives....

    - Closest Ducati service center is 1.5 hours away.

    - Feels heavier walking around the garage, but seems nimble while riding.

    - Unable to clear service interval lights on my own.

    - Don't like having a key fob instead of a key to insert.

I will keep you guys updated about my opinion/differences as I come across them.

  7. So.... it was somewhat of a sad day. I traded my '15 FJ in on a 2018 Multistrada 1260 S Touring.  I've always been interested in a Multistrada so I pulled the trigger on one. If it doesn't work out for whatever reason (mainly maintenance or reliability issues) then I plan to trade to new Tracer 9 GT. Time will tell. The FJ was and still is a fantastic bike. I will still be around the forum as a moderator or if I see any questions I can help with.

Thanks Skip, your help has been more valuable than I can say. I feel bad about not chasing things down more promptly, but unfortunately our summers are brutal for working outside or in the garage; 112 currently. I might have a couple cooler days this week I can trace things out, but it’s looking more like I’ll be surrendering it to a shop at this point.

That beer (or bottle) is still on me if you find yourself in Phoenix someday

You gotta let us know what you or they find once it is finally resolved.

Have you checked a motor on its 2nd or 3rd valve check?  If so, were the exhaust valves as tight as the typical 1st check?  Mine were tight at 23K miles and within spec at 44K miles, I will reach 60K this month and wondering if I should stay on schedule for the 3rd check or let it go a little longer until later in the year?  On my previous FZ1 I had over 70K on the motor and they were always in spec.

    Thanks, Brian
