  1. I got a 2019 Niken GT but it's oil has been sitting for 1+ years. It has nearly 4k miles. I purchased this but I'm not sure if this is appropriate to clear out the engine. Any suggestions otherwise?

Hi @norsie, and welcome.  I would suggest that you post your questions in one of the forums, since these status updates are sometimes hard to notice or follow.

That said, I would just drain the oil & refill with a fresh batch of good quality synthetic motorcycle oil.   12-18 months isn’t really that long to be sitting up, and I’ve left a few mothballed for much longer than that with no issues.

I don’t have any experience with the motor flush, so can’t really comment one way or the other.   I assume you add that to fresh oil as part of an oil change, run it for a short period, then drain?

Hi @cncworld - I would suggest you post this in the ‘bikes for sale’ sub-forum, where it should get a lot more traffic.  These status updates are easy to miss….

      Good luck with the sale!

  3. Hello to all,

I'm Steve, a new member.  My current ride is a NC750X which I plan to replace.  My search has narrowed to a 900 GT.  I haven't ridden one (impossible in Canada this time of year).  i have watch a gazillion YouTube videos though lol. I feel like the 900 is going to give me what I've been missing...an exciting ride!  Sort of a combination of my previous VFR800 and my FJR 1300 (my two favorite bikes).  Let me cut to the chase...

Seems that 900 owners don't like 3 things  about their bikes(could be more, but i see these as the big ones) 1. front suspension,  2. windscreen,  3 seat.   Sort of bummed by the idea I have to spend $1,000 or more to make the bike livable.  The new one has made "improvements" in all these areas (if you believe the press).

Here's the math.  I can get a new 19 for $12,200 (one left at this price) a new 20 for (guessing) $14,200 (at least 8 around at this price) or order a 21 for $17,400 with delivery in April?

    Three questions:

    1. From what I've read,19 and 20 versions are identical, other than colour.  Anybody disagree?

    2. Are any of you happy with the 900, the way it came from the factory?

    3. As owners, you have the  experience I lack. Knowing what you know, would you go 19, 20 or 21?

I know the decision is up to me,  but we've all been where I am now.

    My thanks for any thoughts,

    Steve

Hi @SilverSteve - Welcome to the forum!   Lots of good information here, and no shortage of (semi-educated) opinions to offer.

The 2021 model Tracer 9 is the great unknown here.   While we're all paying attention to the updates and changes of the new model, nobody has actually ridden it yet.   Based on the significant improvements that the Tracer GT brought forward from the original FJ-09, I anticipate the new model will be much better still.   Aesthetics are highly subjective, but I'm not 100% sold on the new styling theme... maybe it will grow on me over time.    For the price savings of a 'new non-current' 2019 model, you have lots of room to potentially update to your personal taste and preference...

If I may suggest, post this into one of the primary discussion boards, instead of in a status update.   These tend to get overlooked easily on the forum for some reason, and you're likely to get much more feedback from a topic in one of the main forums.

      Regards,
      -Scott

Welcome @ReSTored!   I’m sure you’re going to enjoy the Tracer when the spring thaw comes around.

Honda CT70...  are there any of us that didn’t get our start on the old Honda Trail 50/70/90s?  :)

  5. I JUST signed up because I'm interested in the Niken and it looks like this may be the place to learn more about one before deciding on a purchase.  I'm 77 and an experienced touring and off-road rider.  My current street bike is a 2001 GL1800A with a "Full Montey" Tranxion Dynamics set up with about 200K miles - most of which were put on before 2010 when I mostly quit street riding (because my Sweetheart/wife passenger lost interest).  At that point I resumed serious off-road riding on mostly KTMs.  I'm in northern Maryland USA - near DC and just south of PA.

If ANYONE can direct me on how to better use this forum or where to look for Niken info I'd appreciate it.

One question I haven't yet seen addressed in the several Niken threads I've check is -  Is the Niken and harder or easier to pick up if you drop it than a similar size/weight conventional sport touring bike.  I'm in fairly good shape for a 77 year old, but struggle to lift my Goldwing if dropped and thus am looking a lighter touring bikes that still have some of the comforts and wind protection that OLD folks like :>)

    THANKS for any help!

Welcome!    We seem to be getting more Niken owners and interest here recently, so hopefully you can pick up some helpful information.

If you haven’t found it yet, there is a Niken specific sub-forum here on the broader Tracer/FJ board.  Take a look around and feel free to post questions in those forums...   it’s a friendly group around here.
