No experience on the 900 GT but I have installed a Moto Dynamics brake light on my 2015 FJ-09. Excellent upgrade and much brighter than stock (running and braking). The only complication is it changed the turn signal bulbs from conventional to LEDs. This required additional resistors be in the turn signal circuit. The resistors came with the brake light assembly and were simple to include. Ride Safe -

My riding is moving to long-distance touring so I now have a R1200RT. The FJ needs a new home. Great bike, just don't get to ride it much anymore. I'll add a personal statistic. My family has been in 3 accidents over the last 10 years, all the other person's fault. 2 of 3 did not have insurance as required in this state. Assuming others will do the right thing is the biggest risk you will take. Ride Safe -

Apologies to readers in colder climes, but I have to get this out. 😄 I live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Georgia (US) and our weather is completely schizophrenic! Last week I was out riding on a sunny day with the temperature reading 81 degrees F (27C). Today's it's snowing here and expected to be 19F (-7C) tonight. I love living where we have chances to ride all year 'round but these seasonal changes make planning rides crazy. It's like springtime enjoys teasing us with a few warm days, then laughs at our plans. I know it's premeditated because the best days are during the work week and the bad weather likes to arrive on the weekends. Oh well - I guess I'll check on my maintenance items and plan rides on my mapping app. Soon it will be Springtime to stay and I hope I'll see some of you on the roads nearby. I have done extra lights, air horn, etc. I'll add in anyone who will work on a bike needs some electrical tools. A basic (read not expensive) multimeter, assortment of heat shrink, 12V test light, and spare fuses (don't ask me about this one). You don't have to be an electrical engineer to solve most of the small wiring issues on bikes. What about everyone else - any suggestions on other electrical tools? Ride Safe!

Have you ever said something and then wondered if it was a mistake? Happened to me last weekend. I am working on plans for traveling across the US this summer and wanted to upgrade my 2015 FJ to a new model. Searches online led me to look at bikes I was curious about, but had no plans on buying. Oops! I ran across a local add for a 2013 BMW R1200RT without a price. The bike looked pristine with about 25K miles on it. So - - - I made a seriously insulting offer at about half what these seem to be selling for. The seller just said OK. I went and drove it and it was great, although needs the 24K service. The seller's wife told him he could buy a new BMW convertible (car) if he sold the bike. He had a clean title in hand so now I have an FJ and a BMW in the garage. My wife will not ride with me so I can't make her understand the need for a more comfortable long-trip bike and the FJ. FWIW, the BMW feels slow and steady compared to the lively FJ. Still, for cross country, I'll be taking the BMW this summer. Not sure how much longer I can justify having an FJ sitting around JUST for short trips. I might get something smaller, but will hate not having that triple singing as I misbehave. Fair warning - don't look at stuff online you shouldn't (pretty good generic advice), unless you want to end up doing something you didn't plan on. Ride Safe!

I have a set of 2015 light duty Givi racks. All parts are in great shape. I used these to keep a set of soft bags secure but they are made for Givi semi-rigid bags. PM me if you're interested in these lighter duty racks. I updated to the quick-disconnect racks for the heavier hard bags.

FYI - look online for Starlock washers. I found a 300 piece stainless steel assortment online for about $10. Not exactly the same style, but designed to do the same job. Ride Safe!

I upgraded a few years ago to some FJR knock offs from ebay. Just a few dollars and have worked very well. Same comment as above - expect to spend a little time drilling out the old ones, but the new ones install pretty easy. Springs can make the project a little challenging but are easily addressed by using a punch or blunt nail as an alignment tool during the install. Ride Safe!

I had a similar situation and it was easily solved on eBay. Just enter the full bolt description in the search box. I tried it and your bolts seem to come in at about $1 each in stainless Steel. Good Luck Ride Safe

I have been considering adding the slipper clutch, cruise control, and heated grips to my 2015 FJ-09. Obviously a trade up will get me all these so I thought testing a newer Tracer would be a good idea. Oops - it's gonna cost me money. My thoughts are below. If anyone else has ridden new vs. old, back to back, please share your thoughts. I rode my 2015 to the test ride and did about 100 miles on my bike before and after a decently long test ride - pretty good back to back comparison. Opinions will vary as others get experience with the bike so this is just one guy's thoughts - YMMV. My thoughts on the 2021 - - - Engine feels different, but in a good way. It seemed a little more refined than my 2015, but it could be the difference of years and miles. Suspension is way better. I found some potholes and the bike behaved really well, less jarring than the 2015. Also got to lean the bike over at real world speeds (thank you Yamaha for good ride leaders who let us really test bikes). The new bike is much happier leaned over and definitely feels more stable. Dashboard(s) - seemed intuitive to me (I'm in the 60-70 age group) and not hard to navigate and change settings / views. Rowdiness - good news - it's still there. Same heart in the new triple. Brakes - OK - I didn't do any really hard stops but the brakes seem adequate and not a lot different from my 2015. Exhaust - It sounds better than my stock 2015. Same happy whistle at certain speeds but a little more bass across the rev range. Quick-shifter - gotta have it. Excellent up and down. So, 20 minutes on a monitored test ride is just a sample but I am really impressed. Once availability at dealers improves, I will be shopping for one of these. Ride Safe -

I have been looking too. Yamaha factory test rides are coming to a dealership I trade with in a couple months. I read the list of bikes and all are 21's except for the tracer. They say the factory is bringing a 20 model for the test rides. Seems odd, but that's what's on the website. I'm cross-shopping the new Tracer, the Versys 1000, and the HD Pan America. I know they're different, but kinda scratch the same itch for me. Ride Safe!

I use the foam Grip Puppies brand and really like them. I have about 6,000 miles on the current set and they do not show any wear. Trick for putting them on - don't laugh at me (I leaned this from someone else brave enough to share). The magic answer is Aqua Net. This cheapest of all hair sprays lubricates just right, then creates a weak glue to hold Grip Puppies in place. You can still remove them easily and don't have residue after, either. Try the Grip Puppy-hair spray trick secretly if you must - I bet you will thank me later. Ride Safe - - -

I have a friend who is a LEO. He shared a story about a recent traffic stop and we all had a good laugh. He came down an entrance ramp onto a busy Atlanta interstate and saw a car speeding in the left lane (4 lanes going this way) and sped up into the guy's blind spot. 85 in a 55. My friend slowed and dropped in behind the speeder, lights flashing. The guy pulled over and my friend approached the window, then asked "Do you know why I pulled you over?" He said the driver looked embarrassed and answered - - - "not sure, how long you been back there?" He let the guy off with a warning - said it was the best laugh he had all week. Ride Safe -

I accidentally found a comfortable backrest for my 2015 FJ-09. I travel on extended 1-up trips with Givi bags and a trunk fixed to a rear rack. I was heading out for a few days and expecting to see some rain so I added a full size rain cover to my usual gear. The rain cover fits in a zip up bag and it fits nicely on the pillion seat pressed against my trunk. The result is the rain cover makes a very comfortable back rest. Next time I'm all loaded up, I'll get a photo and share. I may not look the coolest loaded up this way, but it is very comfortable. Sometimes unplanned things like this result in the best discoveries. Ride Safe!

I have these and used them for a couple seasons on my 2015 FJ-09. Only used them for overnight trips as I had a tail box at the time. I have a recommendation and an offer. I didn't like the way the soft bags would swing and get close to the rear tire so I bought a set of the light duty Givi bag racks (TE2122). These made the bags stable and they looked better, too. Rain covers worked OK a couple times without a lot of water getting into the bags. Now the offer. I upgraded to Givi hard cases and swapped out my racks. I still have the Givi light duty racks. I'll ship them to you for the shipping cost. I have all parts and instructions. If you get the soft bags, PM me and we will figure out shipping from Georgia to California. I sweat easily and a lot. I use a different tact to avoid swamp-helmet. I always ride with a helmet liner. I have a couple Heat Out brand liners from CycleGear and alternate them. I throw them in the washing machine after long rides and they have held up well. I also make sure to air the liner out when I'm not on the bike (hang it off the handlebar when I park). When I ride, I can't tell I'm wearing these things and they seem to keep the helmet fresh. I used the same Bell helmet for about 4 years and never had any problems. My Shoei is a couple years old and I'm having the same result. Of course - YMMV. Ride Safe!

I'm doing the same as others have mentioned. I have the SAE connector for the battery tender tied directly to the battery (fused, of course). I use an adapter to plug in my heat controller for my gear. I've been using it since I bought my FJ in 2015 without any issues. Two safety recommendations: route the cable so it does not get pinched, and keep the cover on the plug when not in use. You're going to love the Tracer - best engine out there! Ride Safe!

Tar snakes are a fact of life here in Georgia. Hot summers make them particularly exciting. More than once I have looked like a flat tracker with one foot coming off the peg in anticipation of putting it down as I drifted across some snakes. There are areas I ride where the snakes look like spider webs and cover entire lanes. It's enough to feel traction slip, even in a car. I have gotten used to the unexpected slips as I run over these things and the FJ handles them OK. My biggest worry is catching traction too quickly when I hit the tar in the curves. I've avoided doing a high-side in this lifetime and hope I never find out what it's like. Given what the last year was like for riding, I'll gladly ride over the tar snakes, so long as I can get out and keep riding. Ride Safe - - -
