  1. I thoroughly enjoyed that write up and thanks again for surviving. I see by your blistered Diaablo's that you may like the very edge as I do, it's more fun over there. Simple Green rocks. Are you using track take-offs ? The new ones look wasted already.
  2. Very nice, a worthy investment. Good job of resi placement and detailing.
  3. You are skilled or lucky or both, that cat took a wallop that may have launched you both into the woods. Obviously other vehicles have milled down that dangerous asphalt patch job, we see those here too. 1/2 arse work. If Yamaha gives us weird geometry and soft springs they should design a more robust bottom on this engine.
  4. A worthy investment of fuel, keep grinding...it is truly fun. I agree with the tire opinion, the last time I liked OEM rubber was never. These 222's really grip and I can't kill the rear yet at 4500 miles.
  5. And the lever on the handlebar is a BRAKE lever. . . . BREAK is when a part or bone is subjected to forces beyond design causing failure.
  6. Turn off TCS and take video of your experiment please. I know what happens when a hot FJ-09 tire hooks up, it is not meant or happy holding still for long.
  7. GOOD LORD !! You mounted a barn door to your bike papihog. I just can't imagine the need, embrace the wind don't try to defeat it. 90 mph passing should be performed with extreme caution.
  8. Thanks for the pictures stephen. Those brackets look thinner and lighter than the Yamaha turd pieces, let us know how they fare in real use.
  9. A rear view would help me decide but the black unpainted looks good and visually hides some size. That bike is ready to ST !
  10. I installed my Cal-Sci tinted shorty and like the result. I'm 6' and keep the seat in the low position. Screen position 1/2 so far. Wind hits the helmet at the nosecone at low speed 30-40 mph, bugs can woft over the screen and hit your neck below 30 but the added ventilation when it's hot and humid is welcome. At higher speeds wind flow moves up slightly, the roar seems less and following SUV's and pick-ups (Texas) produces less helmet wobbling. At highway speeds (60-80 mph) in traffic with large trucks and associated turbulence this is a different bike, the shake and wobble I assumed was coming from the handguard wings and wacky fairing shape is greatly reduced. Clean air lets the helmet do it's thing for better or worse. It is much quieter and seems stable at 90+ but I need a longer ride to confirm. It is shorter, wider and not optically perfect when viewed at an angle, a non issue for me. I have no rain experience yet but assume my lower helmet area will get more water than the stock screen. Well packaged, tire guage, micro-fiber cloth and cleaner included. Happy so far and what I expected, a long tour next week will be the true test.
  11. Sorry it did not work out, I assume you are talking about the touring screen. I always thought the vents and their size were the hot ticket for tuning out the vacume. I experimented with the FJR, gave up and went short, got the wax ear plugs. The next owner will enjoy it.
  12. Thanks!! I still catch grief from PJ and mikec426 on the forums because I sold the silver bike and forgot to take off one of the only 2 sets of Rizoma front brake caliper guards known to exist.Ever. You WHAT ?? Knucklehead..... I'll report on the shorty. I did not like the high seat position but only tried it for 3 miles. Nice to have that option.
  13. Nice FZ's ! The naked conversion is still one of my favorite bike looks. Ordered the Cal-Sci shorty today, the bobble head syndrome will be defeated and that's the first step.
  14. Why motorcyclists try and escape the wind is beyond me. You are on a motorcycle riding through the elements. The Goldwing touring screen buffets and it's as big as a barn door. Embrace and enjoy it. Helmets are designed for clean air. My best results are with a short screen or none at all. I am spoiled with a warmer climate most of the time but have been forced to do ice, snow and hail with the shorter screens. I hate the buffet issue in freeway traffic, the FJ stock screen is bad there. Tons of good screen feedback here, I will try the Ermax and Copperdawg from your reviews, thanks so much. I can't stress the need for hearing protection while riding enough, any prolonged noise at that frequency catches up to you when you age. Some loss is natural after 45, don't make it worse. Music is good.
