  1. how did I goof up that quote/post? Sorry about that.
  2. I've ridden several hundred miles since the handle bar swap now and I can say that the Renthal Fatbar is a definite improvement over the stock bar for me. The additional 'sweep' or pull back allows a much more comfortable position for my wrists. I left the hand guards off as well and I think this cleans up the aerodynamics.
  3. Got a tap in the mail today from my new friend Bob and ten minutes later I'm installing the OEM aluminum caps and some black Delrin bar ends I made. That tap handle is over 40 years old. I made it in high school!
  4. I got my Street Nakeds installed last night and test rode this morning. It is noticeably better for wrist comfort that the stock bars. Install went pretty smooth, I goofed up on drilling the hole for the left side control housing so I ended up grinding of the little plastic tab in the housing rather than make the hole in the handlebar bigger or elongated. No problem, the clamp inside the housing is pretty beefy. I still have to tweak the brake and clutch lever angles but overall I'm very happy. I bought the bars from Revzilla. Good price and quick shipping. I went with the titanium color, looks nice on the FJ-09. Probably won't put the hand guards back on. I don't get their functionality and what a garish collection of plastic bits and metal brackets etc. I might change my mind if a take a stone or big bug in the knuckles, but at least for summer, those bits are staying in a cardboard box in the closet
  5. Thanks for the photos. I should be doing this in a few days too.
  6. I also ordered some new bars; street naked. I'll report in after I get them mounted.
  7. OK, disregard previous post. My computer would load the fatbar page last week. Now I see the 'street fighter' model and I'm interested in the 'street naked' model too. A little more pull back with that one but a more width. Probably will go with the street fighter given its proven history on the FJ-09.
  8. Thanks fjindy for posting this and 2ballde for the measurements. This looks like the answer for my wrist troubles. I can't find 'streetfighter' model at Renthals site. I see a 'street low' bar but the measurements don't seem to be describing the bar we see in pictures here if the 'stock' measurements presented here are right. OP says the sweep is greater that stock by about an inch (25mm) but if stock sweep is 55mm then 'street low' sweep would be about 80mm, right? I know its hard to measure something like this and I'm not dissin anyone's measuring technique. I appreciate the work put in here. I just want to be sure I know what I'm ordering. I like the pictures, it would allow my hands to move in the direction of goodness for comfort. Any further clarification would be appreciated. Thanks!
  9. Been running Rotella T 15-40 non-synthetic in my FJR for over 100K miles. Probably use the same stuff in my FJ-09
  10. While I've been breaking it in (finally done!) I have also been farkling a bit. I posted my home made sliders before, but the Vista Cruise mounting, kick stand foot (also home made) and FJR bag install photos are new. the FJR bags were from two different bikes, bought used and damaged and I had them repainted to that beautiful FJ-09 red. Vista Cruise and Givi tank lock ring in background Whelen LIN3 flasher. FJR bags mounted Working on front fork brackets to mount some additional lighting. Of course, I'll post photos if I like the results.
  11. Did my 600 mile oil change. Puke yellow Purolator PL14612 filter and 3 qts of Rotella T. Good 'til 4K.
  12. Last year I had a Motoport UltraII Kevlar 3/4 length jacket made for me. It flows alot of air and offers great protection in my opinion. I've had a few other mesh jackets over the years but they always felt a little flimsy. the Motoport/Cycleport stuff feels bullet proof. I'm hoping to order some Kevlar pants later this year.
  13. I have a Nelson-Rigg S2000 (??) 1/2 cover that I've been using on my FJR for years. I'll probably pack that on any overnight FJ-09 trips too. Light weight, packs small and gives good protection. I think I paid $30 in 2009.
  14. I installed my saddle bag bracket and test fit my FJR saddle bags. Perfect! Also installed a Vista-Cruise throttle lock. Next week I should receive my Cal Sci large screen. OH goodie!
  15. Installed my Kouba 2" mirror extensions and test rode it. Functional mirrors!
  16. I got my first test ride Saturday on a brand new bike. after 1 mile in standard mode I switched to A mode to see what the buzz is all about. I would describe the response as more crisp, but I didn't find it snatchy or abrupt in anyway. I ride a 2005 FJR and my right wrist may be predisposed to sensitive throttle inputs. Anyway, love the bike. Time to start working a deal here in MA.
  17. Thats a very classy marketing strategy from CB. They don't have a product to offer so shit on your competitor who put the effort in to make something. Does anyone else think the CalSci offering is'hideous'? I had a Cee Bailey's windscreen on my FJR and ended up replacing it with a CalSci. It improved the turbulence and helmet buffeting substantially. Function seems to be CalSci's priority.
  18. I bought a windshield for my FJR from CalSci. Very good quality stuff, Had some questions about sizing and Mark was very helpful getting me the right fit. I like that the windshield design is based on science. Check out their whole website. Lots of good bike related stuff there.
