  1. I knew it was going to be a bad day when all the "suggested just for you" adverts on the social media feeds featured nothing but "Tire Warmers".
  2. I'm still using a bucket, soap, sponge and hose!
  3. As an alternative, consider adopting the European - and rest of the world - maintenance schedule recommended by YAMAHA in the OEM Owner's Manual: Oil changes every 10,000kms/6,000miles and oil filter changes every 20,000km/ 12,000 miles. The HAYNES manual lists both the European and North American schedules too. SAME recommended OIL: YAMALUBE or API SG or better or JASO MA. Thoughts?
  4. I discovered that the North American (Canada and the USA) recommended oil change mileages in the owner's manual (every 6,000kms, or 4,000 miles) - are MUCH less than the recommendations for service in the owner's manuals in the rest of the world: (10,000kms, or 6,000 miles). Same recommendations for oil - YAMALUBE, or API SG or better OR JASO MA. Same for the FZ07/MT07 series. So I ask "Why does Yamaha recommend more frequent service for the North American motorcycles?"
  5. I love how the "the North Atlantic Shipping Container Dull Matte Grey paintwork" almost matches my duct tape repairs....
  6. Baja October 2018 meets in San Ysidro, California, on Sunday October 14th, heading into the Mexican Desert Peninsula for the next 14 days. Come for one, or come for all. Get up early or sleep in late. Ride solo, ride in a group. Longest day will be about 500kms. Once south of Tijuana/Ensenada, its pretty and...deserted...until the southern tip at La Paz/ Cabo San Lucas 2000kms south. 99% paved (excepting construction, or hurricane reconstruction). 2 lanes, 80kph. Gas prices comparable, food/accommodations most reasonable. This will be my 5th, and likely final Baja run for a while. I'm expecting around 10 riders. All types of motorcycles, all levels of experience. I just ask that Riders be independent and self sufficient. Stick to the program or not as suits you, you know you have friends on the road in the area, just in case. I did the previous runs on my GL1000, and DL-1000. We've had everything from 650 singles to 1600 V Twins. Post hurricane season, pre-winter tourist season - and temperatures to the level that even the locals get out and ride. We've a group on Facebook, Baja October 2018. You've still got a month to prepare! Join us?
  7. Check the Sidestand switch? (Similar effects noted way long ago on my 1981 Yamaha XJ650, and this April on a Ducati Multistrada 1200. ) Can't hurt to check - switch on tight? On centerstand, runs in gear, dies when sidestand deployed. (Keep your mitts away from any moving parts!)

  10. Counted three FJ's in the random stream of motorcycles on the Sea to Sky Highway going to Squamish on Saturday Jun 2nd. One may have been a 2018 Tracer 900? We have distinctive headlights, forks and taillights. And saw my first Husqvarna 701 Vitpilen there. Almost the same retail price as a Tracer 900.
