  1. My bike has had the tensioner replaced under the recall but I recently installed an APE manual CCT. I'm probably overthinking the installation of that
  2. Yeah, my bike definitely has that too! This is separate though. Thanks for your reply! Probably just overthinking my CCT installation...
  3. this is my first post here, but I picked up a 2015 FJ-09 back in August with 11,500 miles on it. Didn't get to ride a ton last year but really love the bike. Anyway, earlier this season I fired the bike up to go to work like normal, and heard a loud ticking noise which sounds like valves that the bike had not made previously. I first assumed this was the CCT noise everyone talks about, so I ordered and installed the APE manual CCT everyone raves about. I called Yamaha and my bike has had the CCT recall performed back in 2017.This definitely quieted what was CCT noise (separate issue), but this loud ticking persists. I'm paranoid about the CCT installation even though it made the noise with the factory CCT. I did everything by the book, put the engine at TDC, held tension on the guide, made sure nothing got in, etc. I'm probably just overthinking this part of it. Everywhere says if it's too tight it'll whine, too loose it will rattle. Well these bikes are loud and make lots of noises, but it was significantly quieter after the APE CCT so I think I'm good in that regard. I think not having CCT noise makes this other noise more prominent. Anyway, it's quite loud when the bike is first fired up, and mostly noticeable when slowing down in gear. Funny thing is it goes away almost entirely once the bike hits about 155deg indicated on the dash. Starts to quiet down at about 125ish. Is this normal? should I check my valve clearances? the bike seems to run normally and is not down on power or anything, just noisy. Thanks in advance!
  4. Thanks for the replies! I will check out the cable on my bike and get one ordered ASAP if it is not the new part.
  5. @koth442 yes my bike is a 2015. Haven't heard of this, but I'll look into it. Have a part number by chance? Thanks!
  6. Hey guys, Clutch free play is within spec. Maybe this could just be me overthinking this. I was not aware there was an issue with the factory clutch cables, but my cable does not appear to be broken. Who knows, maybe I'll see how it feels after the next oil change.
  7. Hi all, Just did my first oil change on my new (to me) 2015 FJ-09. Not sure what oil the dealer had put in it (presumably yamalube), but I replaced it with Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10w40 thinking it would be an upgrade. Oil level is perfect, however I've noticed a decrease in smoothness of shifting. Has anyone else has this experience? Just curious if that is an effect of synthetic oil vs Dino stuff? Thanks
  8. Hello! New to this forum and new to this bike. Apologies if this is all redundant. Just picked up a 2015 FJ-09 with 11,000 miles on the clock. Well aware of the CCT issues as I've read about them. The two allen head cap screws on my CCT have definitely been used, which leads me to believe the CCT has been replaced. CCT makes no abnormal noises, even on cold starts, so that I'm not worried about at the moment. I'm coming from riding four cylinder bikes, so maybe some of these are just normal triple sounds? Firstly I've noticed a squelchy noise that seems to come from the left side of the engine. Almost a squeal. I don't really notice it during normal riding, but as soon as there's a jersey barrier or a bus or something on my left, it reverberates quite loudly. It corresponds to engine revs. Is this normal? Secondly, I've noticed that after riding in traffic, once the bike has heated up to 195F or above, the valvetrain clicking becomes audible, especially at lower rpms. Maybe this is normal for these engines? Just wondering if I should have the valve clearances checked although 11k seems early. Another note, it has plenty of oil, fresh oil change from the dealer. Worth calling a Yamaha dealer to see if the CCT has been replaced under the service bulletin? Thanks guys! Loving riding this bike so far!!
  9. Hello everyone! I have just purchased a 2015 Yamaha FJ-09 with 11k miles, and very excited about it! Finally going to retire my 1996 Yamaha FZR600. That has been a great bike to me, but it is time for something more comfortable. Had been watching this one at a local dealer for a while, and when the dropped the price, I had to pull the trigger. Very excited to do lots of riding, especially into the beautiful fall season here. Cheers!
