  1. I had the same oil light problem right after a service at the dealership. I took the FJ back the next day to get it checked and the head mechanic said the oil (which was half way between the lines) was just a little low. He topped it up and its been fine ever since in all types of weather.
  2. Installed a Higdonion crash cage with sliders...and love it. Easy install and it might even make the bike look better. I'll post some pics tomorrow when I do a full farkle update.
  3. Those Evotech bobbins have been on my wish list for a while...and thanks for the link to the Aliexpress case guards - they might do the trick at a fraction of the price of an R&G kit. We had a pretty warm day here for Canada, so I was able to take the FJ to work and then poured a beer when i got home and set her up on the centre stand to take a closer look (she's been in the corner of the garage under a cover for about a month). What I figured out is that the most comfortable spot for a set of pegs for me (32" seam) would be about 4-6" directly below the front engine mount. So, a Higdonion cage is likely the best (only?) option if I wanted to add a peg in that general area, and then I could add a LED further up by the bolt. I also figured out that I likely need a set of risers...yikes.
  4. I can imagine. This is why I'm probably not too worried about protection at high speed - at that point, it seems like all bets are off. However, I have already had a couple of scares moving the bike around the garage or rolling up to a light and misjudged the weight or put a foot on something slippery. My guess is she gets dropped eventually, but my hope is that it isn't at speed. Ideally, I'd like to aim for a sweet spot - get the right type of protection to make sure small errors on my part aren't too costly and hopefully also use whatever bars or sliders I add as highway pegs on long rides and maybe as mount-points if I add LEDs. I keep waffling between an all-in Higdonion cage and skid plate approach or doing to drain plug swap to protect the oil pan and sticking with sliders or something like the H&B crashbar.
  5. So, reading through the posts, it sounds like in a slow speed get off or tip over, the Givi crash bars will still allow a bit of damage to the engine, but the H&B, SW Motec and Higdonion keep the engine and plastics from hitting the ground? I'm trying to figure out what combo of sliders, bar ends and crash bars I should strap on to try and minimize damage to the bike when (and not if) I drop it at a pull out. I like the look of the bike pretty clean, so I'm trying to avoid a full Mad Max.
  6. It a pretty slick install - took about a half hour. I'm using a Givi V47 box with the adapter mounted to the Yamaha rack (which didn't take a half hour, but that's a different story). The mounts for the side bags are pretty low profile with the bags off - you don't really notice them. I bought discount FJR bags and the Givi box online, and got the side stays, rubbers, locks and tail rack ordered with the bike. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it all works - I'll post pics once I get the FJR bags recovered.
  7. Great post - I'll hopefully do mine later this week. Does anyone know if there is an easy way to pop the grips off if you don't have an air compressor handy?
  8. Installed Givi v47 top box and FJR side cases...and then paid my Visa (gulp).
  9. Ebay special. linky Nice - and a good price.
  10. These look really good. Does anyone know what brand the sliders are on the red bike in the third pic on the home page? That red metallic accent looks pretty good too.
  11. Does anyone have suggestions for sliders or bars that work best in slow drops? I figure all bets are off once you're up to speed, but I'm hoping to add some sliders or bar ends that will protect the paint if there is a "tip-over".
