  1. The reason I have asked for your views is because there are videos on Youtube of owners (various bikes) using power tools to spin the 'Bobbins' with a locked nut and bolt whilst spraying them with brake cleaner and I just wondered if that was a step too far? I must admit I had not realised that the disc was supposed to actually 'float' on the bobbins so obviously if they get seized up the discs wont move very much. I have tried moving one with a locked nut and bolt and initially it was stiff to move but a few turns seemed to loosen it off.
  2. So, a friend of mine and I both have 2019 Tracer 900 GT's which we have had since new. My friend has a few more weather miles on his than mine and has just had his annual MOT test which came back with an advisory for slight brake drag on his front discs. The dealer said this is not serious but will be down to seized or sticking disc bobbins! So, my question to you guys is, do you take steps to clear and clean them, and is the nut and bolt trick (ie through the bobbins tighten and then free up with a spanner or power tool) safe and advisable to do and if so how often do you do your?
  3. The Lesson for me seems to be to stick to the nice large flexible rubber key fob supplied by my dealer. This makes them harder to loose from my pocket whilst other other essential items like the ear plug tube will be kept on my house key bunch. I was taken back by the way this happened and the force involved, I was glad I was not riding when it happened as it could well have caused a low speed stability problem.
  4. Having previously lost a pair of expensive ear plugs I decided to keep the small metal tube on my key ring; well that turned out to be a big mistake! The tube is only an inch or so but somehow managed to jam between in the edge of the metal speedo bezel as I parked the bike turning the handlebars fully. Didn't really feel it due to the leverage, but saw the speedo vibrate as the the little tube put great force on the ignition key via the key ring. Needless to say the key and ignition lock took the brunt of it and the key duly bent!. Fortunately it still works and I have new spare to use instead, my dealer says a new key would cost about £150!! Please check out what you have on your key ring, the gap is very small and the sharp bezel is seemingly able to grab things as the handlebar is turned!!
  5. Seems you might be right, checked it today on a run with the air temp. at around 10 degrees C, cruising at 60mph the engine temp did not get past 63 C but rises quickly in very slow traffic. Even when it was 30 plus degrees in the summer whilst cruising it still stayed at about 70 -75C. Still seems low!
  6. Hi Mike, Touring Screen - Motoplastic PUIG For long distance rides, PUIG introduces the Touring series to... As you say a bigger screen is essential, really did not like the original. I opted for the Puig Touring screen which for me has transformed the bike, so much better protection and far less wind on the helmet.
  7. I have been checking my new 900 GT as it seemed to run cold even in a UK summer (showing 65-75C) dealer checked it at the first service and said it was fine. Still not convinced the Thermostat does anything. The air temp is now about 10C and the engine does not seem to get much above 60-65C unless in slow traffic! Has anybody else checked this out in really cold weather? I would have thought it should be about 80-85C
  8. So after seeking the opinion of others and experience of the stock screen for the last 600 miles from new, (not good!) I have opted for the Puig Touring screen based on my previous experience of one of their screens (on a Honda) and the quality. So far it I would say it has transformed my rider experience for the better. No real pressure on my upper body any more and a lot quieter on my helmet depending on the height adjustment of the screen, as a 6 ft rider I am delighted.!
  9. Thanks for all the advice. I suppose I am getting slightly ahead of myself as I haven't actually got the bike yet, but the demo did seem very loud at speed and I am used to a Puig touring screen on my old Honda 750. Hopefully I will get to run the bike in during some decent summer weather so I suppose I should try the OEM screen fully at first before finally making up my mind, but at 6ft tall I do like the idea of a decent size screen with a deflector and your experiences with various makes really helps. Thanks again
  10. Thanks, I really want to go for a touring type screen, the Yamaha site lists theirs at 88mm wider and 94mm taller than the original but is very expensive at £148 (approx $186) the MRA Vario looks very interesting and is much cheaper at £108 UK. The Puig touring screen is a slightly different shape but I know they are good quality so will have to try and decide which way to go!
  11. Rockapple, Thanks for that, does the spoiler work on the stock MT09 GT screen?
  12. Hi, I am looking for some advice please, I have a new 2019 MT09 GT on order and have tried a demonstrator which was pretty amazing!! However it seems clear to me I will need a better screen as the new adjustable screen did not give me sufficient wind and noise protection. (I am 6ft tall) Do other owners have any recent experience please of either Yamaha's own taller touring screen or the Puig equivalent please? I know there are other makes as well but obviously wanted one that is known to fit correctly and of high quality.
