What did you do to your FJ-tracer-gt today?
builderbob replied to yamaham's topic in FJ-09 Tracer 900 General Discussions
Mine is a 2015. There was only one GIVI model available at the time. I've had it for years, so it's probably the 2122. -

That's my bike. Another poster correctly identified the highway pegs, however I have since changed over to GIVI crash bars. More options for mounting the pegs and other accessories. -

Look just like the one I sold after getting the FJ. Enjoy! -
Nice work-around. That said, the easiest way to lift the front end is to load up the luggage rack while on the center stand. Rear goes down and the front comes up!

I'll be interested in your progress. The old Z cars sure are enjoying a cult resurgence. Glad that many are being saved. -

I had 2 '73 models back in the day. Both rusted to oblivion. Sure were fun though! -
I rode there from DeLand a few weeks ago. First time visiting. Met up with a BMW owners group that meets there annually. Nice group and ride. Checked out the little airport while I was there. Might fly next time. 🛩️

Well, don't completely dismiss achieving that goal. I didn't get mine until last year. I was 64. Bucket list.

Cool! Pilot or passenger? Love the vintage tailwheel biplanes.

I flew into that airport from the Bahamas last year. What a cluster f**k customs was that day. Eek. Better from your vantage point.

Weird.

Pretty much. It works the same as Plexus, which I used for years. Virtually no difference between the two, except for price.

I discovered this stuff a year or so ago on Amazon. Appears to be the same as Plexus, but much less expensive. I am a convert.

I had a F800GS a few years ago. Did not like the parallel twin engine. Very buzzy. Don't know if BMW has addressed that with this version, but Yamaha's CP3 engine is way smoother if they haven't.

Very good. Interesting that the airport has that. A couple of my local gas stations have ethanol & lead free gas in the same flavor. Much preferred for the FJ. -

AV Gas is great for that, but in aviation, "mo gas" usually refers to regular gas station gas that you would normally put in your car. Some airplanes are approved to use mo gas as well. All that said, I hope the airport sold you 100LL instead of mo gas. -

Corroded exhaust header clamps
builderbob replied to v1nn1e's topic in FJ-09 Known issues and solutions
Sounds like the perfect excuse to upgrade your exhaust! You're right though, that piece cannot be replaced individually. -
I have this one from eBay. Works well. Of course, as other have said, locktite the screws. In addition to giving better support in softer ground, it also decreases the lean of the bike a bit, which is good when you have it loaded up for a trip.

Why did you have to add the resistors? To slow down the flash rate? BTW, love the look of those signals. -
Length of ownership

Good responses all. My FJ is pretty well farkled with the necessary improvements. If I hadn't done so much to it, it's likely that I wouldn't have remained so satisfied with the bike. Windshield, seat, suspension, exhaust and cruise control have all been added or changed. Never wanted for more power or different fuel mapping, so no changes to the ECU. Absolutely perfect for my needs. I suppose that if I could change one more thing, it would be the chain drive, but it's not that big of a deal. A worthwhile compromise. -
I realize that many will not be accounted for in this query, as those who have left the fold won't respond, but I'm interested. How long have you been in the FJ-09/Tracer fold? I ask because I am going on 5 years, a record for me. Prior to the FJ, there were several bikes in the paddock, rarely staying more than 2 years each. Today, the FJ is the only one. Still very happy with the bike. How many others share this long-term attachment to this great motorcycle?

After 4 years, the throttle cable connection from my Rostra Cruise Control broke. Had to tear the bike down to the throttle bodies to find it. Since I was already that far into it, I fabbed up a new part to connect to throttle that wouldn't require the Rostra cable to make any sharp bends. Wish I had come up with this solution 4 years ago. -

I tightened a couple of bolts, lubed the chain, aired up the tires and put gas in it. Then I rode it... for a long time. First time I've been out on it in months. Still generates a silly grin.
