Last weekend I finished my 1600km break-in period. For me, after 10 years of not riding a bike, the break-in period was not only to let the engine set in but was also useful to get used to the bike and driving in general. So I took it easy in B-mode. I drive in standard mode now, unless the traffic is really busy. The A-mode is just a bit too aggressive on the throttle to my taste. But is is nice to give it a go on empty and twisty roads though.

Maybe. I did sent him 3 photos to show him what I meant and highlighted the top clamp though. He specifically mentioned not to reverse those. I'm curious what reason I'm overlooking not to reverse them. I'll ask tomorrow.

As I suffer from OCD (😉) I had to ask the local dealer if the reversal of the risers would be possible. According to his response by email, this is not allowed/adviced. I have yet to ask him why, but I will hold back on the reversal.

An old posting, but very useful. Why didn't I think of this? Especially with the Yamaha GPS stand mounted on the clamps it is almost impossible to reach the key. This solution is simple but effective.

I'm even later to the game, but today I tried the Kettenmax Premium. Works really great on the Tracer! I've read different reviews on the web and not all of them were equally positive. But the premium kit fits the Tracer like a charm and with both strings firmly holding the Kettenmax, cleaning the chain really was easy. The premium kit comes with S100 chain cleaner (the liquid one) and a small spray canister of S100 white chain lube. I was done in 15-20 minutes, including reading the manual and watching a short tutorial on Youtube.

Holy cow! I just had the Vstream Touring installed as well. And I use it with a vario screen on top. All-in-all it is still a bit shorter than the Puig screen, but nevertheless, should I be worried? Anyone else encountered this problem? Does anyone know the size of the Yamaha Touring screen for the Tracer? I would like to know how this compares to the Vstream / Puig sizes.

Never. We have a policy at home: my wife and me don't ride on the same motor. Just in case something might happen we want our kids to have at least 1 parent left (preferably 2 of course!). And as my wife doesn't have a motor drivers license....I'm the only one riding a bike. And my wife has another policy too: I'm not allowed to take the kids on the motor 😞

So, an update on my previous post. After riding with the new clip-on screen for a two weeks I felt it was good, but mainly for non-highway tours or short rides on the highway. Although I try to avoid highway (boring and too much noise), sometimes the highway is the fastest way to get to a destination.... So I went back to the dealer where I tried the Puig screen. He had a National Cycle Vstream Touring screen in stock and allowed me to take a test ride with it. First impression: less wobbly than the large Puig screen, better air flow but still a bit to much turbulence around the helmet. I then fixed my clip-on screen on top of the Vstream. Just one word: WOW! I can drive up to 130km/h (80+ miles) with the visor open. 150+ km/h and I can still make a phone call or listen to music with my Sena headset. Actually, I wanted to test the noise level so I called my wife while going 130km/h with the visor open. I could still hear her and she didn't notice any noise. I am really happy about the screen combination. So, I bought the screen and the dealer will send my original screen to my home address (doesn't fit in the panniers unless I fold it:-). There is a bit of a downside too. With the screen in the upper position and the clip-on almost completely up, the airflow is perfect but I'm looking just over the edge of the screens (but still in comfortable riding position). And in the summer, the lack of wind on my body might becoming a bit hot. However, the good news is that I can hear the motor now instead of the wind. And for non-highway tours in the summer I can still mount the original Yamaha screen (with/without the clip-on). I also tried the smaller Vstream sport/tour screen with the Puig clip-on but that was more noisy and gave worse airflow than my original screen. The 1,5 hour ride home (90% highway) was a delight! So much better than the ride to the store.... For those who wonder: I'm 6,1 tall and always wear Alpine custom made ear protection.

I would like a tee and hoodie with this design but the Tracer 900 GT name instead of FJ09....

Thank you all for the replies! I’ll just leave those stickers for what they are. Might be looking for the FJR panniers though. If they fit the GT but have more space they might be more useful.

After having a second look at the pannier manual, I saw it was indeed the FJR manual.

Ok, good to hear. I hope other 900 GT owners have the same experience. Also, I’ve read in the pannier manual that a top case shouldn’t be used when you have the panniers installed.....That was a bit of a surprise.

More than 5 weeks after the delivery of my new GT, the panniers have finally arrived. I noticed that with the panniers, Yamaha delivers a set of transparent protective stickers which are to be placed on the body of the motor. Unfortunately, the sticker set was not complete. I will give the dealer a call on Monday, but I was wondering how necessary the stickers are. I do not drive with the panniers very often and having stickers on the bodywork is not something I really look forward to. The stickers may start to peel off in the future or just become ugly by sun and weather. On the other hand, if they are really necessary to prevent scratches I might have to put them on the bike anyway. I am wondering how many GT riders have those stickers on their bikes. And how well they stick, or how bad the scratching of the body work is without them.

I saw an in price reduced Super Tenere at a local dealer. It made me wonder if it is more touring oriented than the Tracer GT, as far as comfort and engine are concern. What is your experience?

Ordered a hoodie. Just doing my part😀 Would be nice to have some more Tracer 900 stuff in the store.

I have tried the Puig Touring screen today. It is the only screen I can try here in the Netherlands without having to buy it first. Unfortunately, it is not the right screen for me. Lots of buffering and noise in all up/down positions. Besides that, I don’t like having such a huge screen in front of me. But that’s just my personal preference. However, I ended up with buying the small Puig clip-on screen. It is just enough to keep the airflow going over my helmet without the buffering. Of course it doesn’t offer much protection from wind/rain but I can live with that.

While QS sometimes freaks me out a bit (feels like one is destroying the gearbox...) I do like to use it when getting up to speed to enter the highway. It really makes the bike shoot like a bullet.

Hi All, After 10 years of not owning a bike following an accident, I decided to start riding again (actually, after 10 years my wife gave me permission again.....). Since about 2 weeks I'm the proud and happy owner of a Tracer 900 GT in phantom blue. I really love the bike: great looks, lots of features, easy handling and smooth riding but yet powerful and playful when you want it. At first, I saw an 9 months old Kawasaki Versys 650 Grand Tourer with very low mileage at a local dealer and decided to buy that, thinking a Tracer 900 GT would be a bit over the budget. However, my wife knew that deep down I wanted a Tracer 900. And then she said: "If you're going to ride a bike again, buy your dream bike that you will enjoy for many years, rather than buying a less expensive "okay-ish" bike that you will want to trade in again in a few years". (gotta love the missis.....) I hope to learn a lot from the forum and in time contribute to it.
