  1. I currently own and ride a 2015 MT09 Tracer in Australia. I had my hopes set on acquiring the new 2021 Tracer 9 GT but it looks like demand will outstrip supply and I would be lucky to have the opportunity to buy one this year. I had looked at videos reviewing the Niken and it definitely intrigues me. All reviews I've read have been favorable. There are lots of ex demos over here in Australia from as little as $15,000 AUD (11,400 USD) to $27,000 AUD (20,000 USD) with low finance. I have already been threatened with being cast out of my riding group if I buy one ! It would be good if the front end locked up when stationary so you could keep your feet on the pegs at the lights. A fully working (down and as well as up) quick shifter would be great (like the new Tracer 9 GT). I guess I should test ride one and see what all the fuss is about. Stay safe and happy riding.
  2. After a few months of ownership (4th Yamaha bike, out of 9 bikes, I've owned), I think I'm just about done with customising my 2015 Tracer to just how I like it without too much extra outlay. I've noticed that during this pandemic, Chinese Speedpak freight is reasonably fast (around 10-14 days) Since purchasing the bike used with 26K Kms, I've added a touring screen (generic Chinese for $140 shipped form Sydney, a 2018-2019 model screen fits with very little modification to bike screen carrier) + extra removable deflector for winter (I'm over 6'4"), a phone / usb mount above clocks ($50 for all parts shipped form Sydney), engine bars + lower case protectors (approx $250 shipped from China), front and back wheel spindle mounted protectors ($40 shipped from Sydney), Handle bar end weights ($30 made and shipped from Aus), Front nose beak ($40 shipped from China), Fender extender ($15 from china), Michelin Pilot Road 5's (fantastic grip), Clutch cable (Yamaha supply the better revised version now, the old one was giving up, I read about a great tip for installing by attaching the new one to the old and pulling it through), Mirror extenders ($20 from China). It already came with badly wired Oxford heated grips and a radiator guard. I was contemplating adding a belly pan, but not sure. Maybe I should just rack some K's up and enjoy the bike (around Central Coast NSW) while we still can. This is the cheapest one I could find at $140 shipped (not Speekpak) from China For Yamaha FZ-09 MT-09 Tracer 900 2013-2020 Bellypan Engine Spoiler Side Fairing For 2015-2020 Yamaha Tracer 900. For 2018-2020 Yamaha... Other improvements I've considered is replacing the exhaust. A decent aftermarket brand such as Akropovic (the only one that looks decent IMHO) is around $1,400. I considered buying a used original exhaust (loads about for $50) and modifying that (loads of articles on the web). There is also the question about suspension. I've got my setup on the soft side to help with soaking up some of the bad roads. TBH I probably don't ride it hard enough to upset it too much. I'm always on the look out (so are a lot of other owners probably) for a cheap used set of Ohlins from a MT-09SP bike, but that's not likely to happen. There is also that issue of the low speed throttle action in Standard / A modes. It doesn't annoy me that much. I switch to the B mode when I'm cruising anyway. I've considered purchasing this Yamaha MT10 MT10SP FZ10 FZ09 MT07HO XSR900 XSR700 R6 Scan Tool MT09 MT03 OBD2 T7 for sale online Find many great new & used options and get the best deals for... to help with taming the O2 sensor. The seat could do with being modified for better comfort. I'm using a strap on Gel pad at the moment. I've also thought about 'upgrading' the indicators with LED ones. So the benefits of LED ones are they use a lot less power, no bulbs to replace, last longer, and maybe brighter. The power savings are only going to be beneficial if you need to leave your hazards on for very long periods with the engine off. Also to get the power savings you need to replace the indicator relay with a relay that is compatible and works with lower powered indicator lights. There is no point in supplementing fitment with 'power consuming resistors' to ensure the old flashing rates are maintained as they new setup will be as power hungry as the old non-led setup. I was also considering purchasing a Triumph Tiger 1200 or a Honda Crosstourer 1200 at the time I was looking for another bike (after owning a Vstrom 650). They are both big heavy beasts compared to the tracer. I am pleased with my decision even though I have to lube and adjust a chain. My partner, she rides a BMW S1000R. The quickshift up and down is very addictive. I could be tempted by a BMW S1000XR (similar riding position to tracer) in the future. Happy safe riding.
  3. Hi @Dobbo I would recommend these weighted bar ends (reduces vibration) and this seller. Black Weighted Bar Ends - R1 R6 MT09 CBR 600RR 1000RR 675 HAYABUSA SV1000 SV650 ... Be sure to mention that you want the MT-09 (I think most Yamaha's are the same) adapters as you have removed your hand guards. All the best.
  4. Many thanks @jdavis & @dazzler24 for sharing details of your tweaks and upgrades. @jdavis your bike is looking good. I was contemplating adding the front beak extension, https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Front-Wheel-Fender-Beak-Nose-Extension-For-Yamaha-MT-09-Tracer-FJ09-2015-2019-18/223037010502, it sure would tidy up the front end a bit. As luck would have it, this locally available screen https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/313059507031 will fit the 2015/2016 model with very minor modification to the mounting plate (bottom 2 holes of the new screen align, top 2 have to be moved higher up to where the 'metal prongs' are, remove the rubber plugs from them and drill out with a 9mm bit). I also got hold of a similar gps phone holder bracket locally at a great price https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/283877887195 it looks like a replica of the one you showed me. It's very decent quality and quite sturdy, made out of steel. I had to use a little bit of fine wet and dry sandpaper in between the ball (not made of rubber) and the phone holder clamp to help it grip. This is the phone holder I went for as I don't have a quad lock syste, https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Universal-X-Grip-Motorcycle-Motorbike-Phone-Holder-Mount-Clamp-USB-Fast-Charge/323934055755. it's fairly decent quality for the money and very sturdy. I also went for these engine case guards for the time being https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CNC-Engine-Guard-Case-Slider-Cover-Protector-For-Yamaha-MT09-FZ09-Tracer-XSR900/254569950523 That lot should keep me going for a while as funds are limited at the moment and I have to replace the tyre's (going with Michelin Road Pilot 5's). Maybe when the used prices of the 2019 900 GT model come down sufficiently I could take a look at that bike (cruise control, quick shifer, remote preload adjustment, heated hand grips built in, TFT colour readout) All the best.
  5. Thanks @dazzler24 for the info. Much appreciated. I suspected as much. Same as my previous 2004 Fazer 600. Yamaha's version is called YISS (very imaginative) I think. Probably all the same system shared around with all the bike makers. I contacted the previous owner who told me that he does not have the red key (he claims he never received it) and he managed to get a replacement key done (a lot of automotive locksmiths have the necessary key scan equipment to do this apparently) so I'm not going to worry about it too much at this stage. I have 2 working keys. Have you put any useful / interesting accessories on to your bike ? I would like to put on an aftermarket screen (seems like they are only available in europe, I think I can get a 2018/19 screen to fit with some slight modifications), maybe some engine case protection, I have a Givi top box rack already, aftermarket heated grips and a radiator guard. I'm thinking of modifying this bracket to help me fit a phone holder above the lcd console so I can use my phones navigation easier. GPS / SMARTPHONE TAOUNT Navigation Bracket For KTM Duke 390 2017 2018 2019 AU For Ducati Duke 390 2018-2019. This bracket to be mounted... Cheers and all the best.
  6. Hi All. I've became the proud owner of a used 2015 MT-09 Tracer with 23K Kms on the clock. I love it. I upgraded from a DL650 Vstrom (thought that I'd never change it). The low to mid range grunt is almost as good, the top end, I won't be able to legally explore. I'm not keen on the clutch basket rattle in neutral. It scared me when the oil level light came on briefly (read that this can be a common occurrence if you don't fill oil to top of full mark). I have the suspension on the softest settings because I ride across a lot of bumpy roads. I got 2 keys (1 recut non original) with it. Does the Aussie edition bike come without the immobilizer HISS system (had this in my 2004 Fazer 600) ? I think I can live with the ever so slightly Jerky throttle response (read about the O2 sensor tamer fix you can get for $120) I downloaded a manual that suggested I should have a red master key ? Is this just for EU bikes ? Thank and all the best.
