Ah yes, the good old Four Sevens in Ely. Have always stayed there over the years. Can't beat the rates and the drink tokes for the Nevada Hotel. The gal that used to work the front desk(Becky - now retired) always took great care of us. Let us park under the roof cover and gave us a bucket and rags to swab down the bikes. Hiking Wheeler in bike gear had to be fun. Hell, you only live once. Thanks for the report.

I'm in the Reno, NV area at 4400' on up in elevation. My '19 Tracer is always around 50-55 mpg whether it's running the local freeways or hitting the mountain roads up to Tahoe, Virginia City, etc. That's running 91 octane Ethanol. No complaints here.

Found this info on the DP Rd. www.mynevadacounty.com › 230 Apr 20, 2021 · September 10,2020 - The Donner Pass road closure will be extended from Rainbow Bridge to the summit on weekdays from 7 AM Sept 21 to 5 PM Oct 2. This is in addition to the existing closure from Rainbow Bridge east to the Town of Truckee limits which is anticipated to be in effect through October. The road will be open on the weekends as usual. After Oct 2, the road between the summit and rainbow bridge will be reopened.

FYI - The Donner Pass Rd.(the old Hwy 40) from Donner Lake up to the top of the hill by the Donner Ski Ranch has been closed. Not sure what they're doing up there. Was up there again on the bike 3 weeks ago during the week. It might be open on the weekends. Maybe check with Caltrans or call a business up at Donner Lake and ask them. I don't know if there is any signage on the Soda Springs end of the road(coming off I-80) indicating any closure. Might save one some time not having to backtrack.

X2 on what keithu said about riding east of Prineville. Take 26 east towards John Day, left on 395 at Mt. Vernon, north to Long Creek, then west on 402 to Hamilton, Monument and Kimberly. Take 19/207 to Spray and Service Creek, then north to Fossil. Then 218 to Clarno, Antelope and Shaniko. Grandma's Ice Cream shop next to the Shaniko Hotel is worth the stop if it's still open. She was the one who lined me up on taking 218 to Antelope and Fossil. The Oregon Hiway crew had just finished paving the road over to Fossil. New tarmac, no traffic -- it was heaven. This was many years ago. The last time I went through that area it was on fire. The road was fine, just couldn't see anything because of the smoke. Have fun!!!

Yeah, I agree. If you're going to worry about gas prices on a bike ride you just might as well stay home and east Cheetos all day. And getting 40-50 mpg on our bikes kinda takes the sting out of $4.50+ per gallon fuel.

About a week ago, I PM'ed one of the gents on this site about the exact question you have. He said he went with the Dual Sport model and it fit the Tracer seat nicely. Will probably order one myself.

My FZ 1 and Super Tenere did it and the current Tracer is no different. Guess it's a Yammie thing. Never encountered any shifting problems going through the gears. Some of my other bikes over the years did it and some didn't.

Depending on your time schedule, if you take Hwy 12 to Torrey, hang a left on 24 then a right on 25 and head up to Fish Lake. Awesome country. 25 swings around(all paved) and runs into 72. Take a left and run up to Hwy 70, go East and hang a right back on 24(just before Green River) and that will take you down to Hanksville, Capital Reef and Torrey. Southern Utah simply has some of the best roads and scenery around. You really can't go wrong no matter what direction you go in. Ride safe and have fun.

After 2000 miles on my Tracer since I picked it up back in early June, I've gotten 55 mpg(+or-) with all types of riding - freeway, twisties, and city streets. I'm not hammering the throttle all the time, but do grab a handful when needed. All in all, I'm as happy as a calf in clover with the fuel consumption.☺️

What issue did you get, Bill? My Sept. issue was still digital when rec'd on Aug. 21. Thanks for the update.

X2 on Shaniko, Antelope, Fossil, Spray, Kimberly, etc. No one on those roads during the week. Also lots of nice roads around the John Day area. Map out a run from Shaniko to John Day. It won't disappoint. Dreamers Motel and the Outpost Pizza and Pub(on Main St.) in John Day are good. Or you can camp at the Fairgrounds just down the street. I've attended 3 Chief Joseph rallys in John Day and ridden the area on 2 other occasions. Folks are real friendly up that way. Never had any problems.

I ordered the same one(Universal Black)that Howton and Randy N talked about. Perfect fit. I tweaked the tabs just a tad like Randy N suggested. It was packaged well, a box within a box with a strip of foam to place around the inside of the guard where it contacts the radiator. As previously mentioned, no instructions included.
