Where did you get the black side panels?  And do you have pics of your tail without the bags?  Oh and the carbon fiber fork protectors?  That is a great look!

I attached a recent pic with the bags removed.  As for the black shrouds, I used "Plasti Dip" Black Sapphire Luxury Metal Spray over the stock Silver.  This achieved the look I want for little money and I can easily remove it if I want to return to the silver or sell the bike.

Here is a link to the Plasti Dip

As yours is new bike as I am whom got it like a week ago, does your exhaust look like it’s rusted, was thinking to use high temperature spray.

I agree that upgrading the exhaust would be preferred but if you are looking for a low cost solution, I pulled from my days of racing moto with unpainted pipes and used 3M 7448 Light Gray Ultra Fine Scotch Brite pads with a little WD-40.  I didn't spend a lot of time to get the pipe perfect but I added pics so you can see the result.  I found them on Amazon with the maroon pads for under $20USD [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075VCCZW9/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_oZjgFbCVP03RJ]

Where did you get the lower side panels, and what did they cost you?  I've wrapped mine in a matte black, but I'd kind of like to get a nice, matte black set of stock panels with all the badging.

I took the stock panels apart and sprayed them with Plasti Dip Luxury Metal Spray (Black Sapphire) with a light top coat of Plasti Dip 11212 Glossifier.  I sprayed over the tracer bashing which gives it a raised, “ghosted” look and I reattached the Yamaha emblem using 3M Super Strength Molding Tape.

I chose the Plasti Dip because it can be removed and doesn’t damage the original silver panel.  The Black Sapphire has a touch of metallic so it blended very well with the other pieces on the bike.

  4. I purchased my Tracer 900 GT about 8 months ago and just joined tracer900.net.  I previously owned a HD Road King, a KTM Duke 390, and a Yamaha YZ450f dirt bike.  They all burned in a house fire back in December of 2017.  The Yamaha YZ450f had the most abuse (by far) but was also the most reliable and trouble-free bike I owned.

With that in mind and insurance sorted, I decided to start over with the Tracer 900 GT (and another YZ450f).  I only have about 2,000 miles on it so far but recently completed several modifications and am planning to do a long multi-day ride at the end of the month.  Here is a list of the mods so far...

    • Swapped out the silver shrouds and side panels for semi-matte black.
    • Upgraded the front and rear seat to a Bagster
    • Installed Vortex sprockets (front & Rear) with a new DID X-Ring chain
    • Swapped out the tires for Continental Sport Attach 3 (front and rear)
    • Replaced the US spec pumpkin turn signals and installed a tidy tail
    • Installed carbon fiber fork protectors (wanted to see a little less gold on the fork uppers)

Next on the list is a Sargent Backrest (for the misses), a Puig Touring windscreen, and a Soundbomb (horn).

Here are the pics with the mods listed above...

  5. I have had it happen to me several times as well.  It always seems to happen right when I start a long stretch and do not want to have to take the time to pull off and cycle through the power.  For something that was invented in 1948, you'd think they'd have it figured out by now.  Especially Yamaha.  I'm still under warranty so I'll mention it the next time I'm in for service and post an update if I learn anything new.

  6. New member.  I purchased my bike late last year and finally got around to performing a host of changes I've been putting off...
