  1. I'm just glad that I read about this characteristic here before buying the T9. I'm sure that it's there for a good reason and I am not too bothered by it. The Yamaha engineers have a lot of credit with me right now, they did such a good job with this euro5 engine and I think it's a compromise to get such fabulous fuelling. After a 1000 km I'm even more convinced that I will not need an ecu flash. I also find that I automatically adapt to the behaviour because it happens less often to me while I still believe it to be 100% reproducible. I just seem to stay away from the area where it happens. I often used to roll to a stop while releasing the handlebars to release tension from my shoulders and wrists. When the engine brake releases unexpectedly it can be a little scary so I am a little more hesitant to do this but as I said that also doesn't seem to happen anymore. I must have adapted my timing without overthinking it. So in my case it's a non-issue.
  2. The clutch on my 21 9GT is perfect. I hope it stays that way.
  3. Hi Hans, I could reply in Dutch but won't for the benefit of the other members: It's a clever design. It just uses two small bolts with the nuts only holding the bolts themselves in place. They are not attached to anything and just fit into the existing holes of the screen clamp. This together with a "lip" on the front holds the thing in place without actually being bolted on. I'd recommend buying from the inventor in the UK though. Unbelievable that Chinese manufacturers now even copy a design from a man selling a 3D printed design out of his garage. (Not that I'm holy in that department though so I won't judge you)
  4. These do not fit because they use a different method to secure them. The 900 version has a nut and bolt and the 9 version has a clever rubber insert that keeps it in place.
  5. I have written in other threads that I found the original brakes to be ok and that I might also use them up first but I caved a few days ago and ordered EBC HH pads. I missed their bite. Will install soon and post my findings here.
  6. When I upgraded my 900GT to the 9GT one of the first things on my to-do list was change the levers because I liked my aftermarket levers so much on the 900 and I wanted the adjustability. Turns out they don't have them in stock but after adjusting the slack in the clutch lever I find that they are... well, just perfect. I now have a hard time putting in an order for evotech levers or the likes because there really is nothing that I want different. It would just be cosmetic. Actually I find the stock levers more comfortable with those rounded edges. So I think I'm going to skip the after market levers on this one... YMMV
  7. I've stopped filling the tank to the brim and now follow the book with my new Tracer 9. So I got "127 km trip1" / "9 liter fuel consumed" and the reserve light starts blinking. When I fill up (after riding 15km on reserve), it's exactly 9 liters. So great, the fuel consumption is more precisely calculated on the 9 than the 900 but it's even more weird to me. I don't mind that one-bar-half-tank thing but it's a nuisance that I'm hitting reserve with half a tank left. If I can only fill 9 liters and the manual states that the tank is 18 liters and you should stop filling when the fuel reaches to bottom of the filler tube that means that I should still have 9 liters in there when the reserve light comes on. I did ride the 900 empty once and I could only do 50 km on reserve so that does't make sense unless something changed drastically on the 9.
  8. About the upgrade to the T9, I was in the same boat. 5000 euro's of upgrades on that bike (half were already on there when I bought it). At the same time I kind of started to lose intrest when I couldn't make it better anymore. And it turns out that the 9 just is better on many fronts that I cannot change. The engine is sweeter with a little more power. You sit more in the bike. They fixed many small things. The dash really is not so bad and the "once you see it you can't unsee it" is completely untrue in my case. I did see it all the time in pictures but now I see the fighter pilot look that Yamaha intended. Maybe I can just bend my mind that way. It's true I'm not looking for rawness, I want the power but I want it delivered in a way that tells me that the machine is happy. I wasn't so sure about that with the 900 GT. "It's a triple, it's normal" turns out to be untrue. It can be wild and playful and still sound and feel like a fine tuned machine. Now I only need earplugs to protect my ears and not to cover up the unsettling sounds the 900 make . Perhaps there still was something wrong with my 900 but I don't think so. I did 10000km without changing anything and it always kept the same character, including the rattling and split personality. Most importantly it rode great. But the 9 runs better.. a lot. I completely agree though that if you're still really happy with the bike there's no need to upgrade. There will always be a better bike, it never ends. About the mileage; there's nothing wrong with the T9, it's got no miles and runs perfectly. What's more the 900 GT also was perfectly tuned and had the exact same mpg. It's just the way I ride I guess. I do admit to only riding for fun and pushing the bike every time. If I ever do any constant speed roads that mpg will surely go up. About the pain, I can only say hang in there and wish you a fast recovery. I try not to talk too much about it, just like the tinnitus, thinking about is detrimental to my quality of life. If I sum up what happened and/or is wrong I get down so I just don't do that anymore. We each have to find our own way to deal with constant pain and that is mine. It's the same with the polarisation of the masses and the soul-sucking social media. I've chosen to mostly ignore and only engage when I feel that it won't consume my precious energy storages. Pain eats a lot of energy as you well know. I find that not giving it the attention that it craves helps. Easier said that done and some pain just won't be ignored of course. Body scan meditation helps a lot but it is not for everyone. Wow this post is all over the place.
  9. So happy! So much more than I had anticipated. It's that same playful engine but smoother, more refined and it sounds killer. The chassis is a huge improvement, the suspension is amazing. I love that there is no dive at standstill. Hold the brakes and push forward... nothing happens. All the parts are more robust. Highly recommended. I know a thing or two about chronic pain as have been suffering from spinal issues since my early twenties. But mine is just the constant pain, never broke anything or had any surgery in that area. Anything that can take your mind of the pain and put a smile on your face is worth a lot. So good for you! Here's to many more rides to come. I'm amazed at your mileage. I switched to the T9 now and my mileage stays the same, just barely above 30 mpg.
  10. Installed pyramid front and rear fender extender and footrest protectors
  11. After 2 weeks of ownership I am still over the moon. I enjoy the upgrade from the 2019 (perfect ECU flash and full Ohlins) to the stock T9 much more than I had ever anticipated. It's so fast, smooth, refined and easy to ride. I honestly do not think it's fair anymore to talk about all tracers as if there are just slight variations between the models. It is a completely new bike. The endlessly repeated cons (dash and looks) mean nothing to me now that I own one. It's just a non issue. I made a deposit on a 2021 S1000XR but the Tracer 9 is just so much better for me. I made the right decision for once. But I do believe that lemons are a real thing. I've had my share. They do seem to be very rare though. @OP You could consider selling the bike and just buying another one for the same price.
  12. I recently transferred this mount from my 19 to my 21 Tracer and saw no cracks. It also fit perfectly but I seem to remember that it was a Gen2 design. I have an MRA touring/vario which is very aerodynamic and I have no vibrations on my Tomtom. This makes me think that the cracks were caused by the vibrations of the Yamaha touring screen.
  13. The 21 has bigger axles and nuts. When shopping for a tyre machine I noticed that pre-21 have smaller axles than almost any other bike. So much so that you have to buy extra adapters or you can not use the machine. Could it be that Yamaha engineers want more torque on undersized parts.
  14. @Kenny A. May I ask where you got these? I'm selling my 2019 and the finish on these is completely gone.
  15. I think I might go this route after all. I got started but then realized that there is even more to remove than I thought; see number 0: As I said I don't even actually use it, it's just a backup so I might look into that insert thing and find a way to make it more resilient to coming loose. If it doens't work for some reason I can still install the port when I have to remove all those parts for another job. Thanks for the tips everyone!
  16. installed Pyramid radiator guard. Perfect fit, fits the Camo theme and looks much nicer than the other options IMO. It might seem like it's blocking more air but it sits at distance from the rad and during a test ride I did not notice any change in coolant temp readings. Up next front and rear fender extender.
  17. I haven't tried those myself but I have heard that these disconnect themselves indeed. On the 9 the port is completely horizontal so it will be even more likely to happen. That's an awesome solution but TBH I don't care about charging times. I've actually never even used the port on my 900GT. I just like it to be there just in case I run out of battery on my phone and really need to call or if I forget to charge my Cardo (which lasts multiple days). I have a Tomtom and my phone is in my pocket and never runs out of juice, even when listening to podcasts on the Cardo all day long. What's more I already have the little bugger, just need to get it installed. Looks like I'll be getting to know my new 9 a little better and remove everything in the picture.
  18. I want to install this USB/voltmeter on the 9. I thought it would be the same as on my 900 GT but got stuck when I couldn't remove the plastic around the dash. I've now got my hands on the service manual and getting to the DC port requires removing everything below, it is the last step. Just wondering if someone has found a quicker way perhaps before I disassemble the entire front for such a simple task.
  19. Thank you for sharing this. I am glad that he is ok and as always a personal tale about these things we'd rather not dwell upon gives lots of food for thought.
  20. It was me, in the first post. I am/was a pro guitar player and it took a long time for me to realise this very fact. Go to the biggest guitar shop you can find and play 10 boutique expensive guitars that are supposed to be exactly the same. Last time I did this I had to do an elimination trial and play each instrument for 10 minutes and then remove a couple that left no impression.. and so on until there was a very difficult decision between two guitars that have their own thing. And yes, my nr.1 guitar is a custom shop telecaster, a model that I really hated the look of and always have. Now I've just bought this Tracer 9 which is also sorely lacking in the looks department. I hope I will grow to love it as much as that guitar. I think I will. Now, I wasn't quick to carry over that analogy to these machines because guitars are made of wood, they are organic and truly unique. But I don't know.. I'm such a rational person but often have a hard time telling myself that these are inanimate objects and the only character they have is projected by us. Bikes are made up of a zillion parts while guitars are really simple in comparison. And AFAIK there are not built from top to bottom by robots, there's still a lot of human labour in the assembly process. And that means imperfection. Isn't that another word for character?
  21. Good point but you have to be a hardcore ADV rider to ride a bike that is basically a pepper mill with wheels. If my chain is not lubricated it's hard to enjoy me ride. I do feel the sprockets fighting the crusty chain and it bothers me. It's a different kind of riding mindset and I do get it but it's not the way I roll.
  22. Yep and that's one of the cases where they say don't use kerosene. Other times they say do use kerosene.
  23. I think the EBC pads will be the great then. They do add a lot of bite.
  24. Just now I tried to stop at a traffic from high speed (from far away) only using the rear and just made it without triggering the ABS. If you do that a couple of times they will get hot don't you think? btw, on my 900 I have a long thread (early 2021 I think) called "bad brakes" and in my case they really were contaminated by the previous owner. I don't know with what but the rear didn't do anything and the front was also very bad. With the help of the forum I scrubbed the rotors with alcohol and installed the EBC's and it has been perfect ever since. A lot better than the Tracer 9 comes out of the factory.
