  1. The stock windscreen is too floppy, it bends a lot with a wind deflector on there. It probably wouldn't snap but it's a possibility I suppose.
  2. I installed my Higdonion cage/skidplate tonight, it wasnt too bad the worst bolt was the back right side. I'll post some pics tomorrow. Oh and my Schuberth C3 came in too, Revzilla had them on sale for $329! Damn this is a nice helmet.
  3. I washed the bike today and did a quick detailing. Btw 303 Aerospace Protectant is the best thing you can use for plastics. Armor All sucks and will damage them over time, 303 lasts forever and restores the original finish. It's a little expensive but a bottle lasts forever. Oh yes. My FJR panniers look brand new again too, they were looking a bit dull.
  4. The torque value they want for the drain bolt is crazy, like 30ft/lbs... I do 15 and haven't had an issue.
  5. I got a new Roadsmart tire put on the bike, ahhhh it feels so good. I didnt realize how squared off the old one was, turn in feels amazing again. I also replaced my bad chain with a gold DID and put on some new Superlite sprockets.
  6. I took some pics of my Scottoiler install and posted in another thread, here's the quote and link http://fj-09.org/post/27180/thread Oh and there's a small tool kit attached to the pan of the rear seat, I had no idea haha.
  7. I got my Scottoiler Esystem in today and got it installed. Kind of a pain getting it all put in there cleanly without having the tubes exposed and flopping around. I'll take a couple pics tomorrow when I get to work. One weird thing that makes it a bit awkward is the power cable comes out the opposite side of the fill hole/breather so you have to mount it sideways when it's under the seat. It may take some fiddling since I spend a lot of time lane splitting and I want to make sure the chain is getting oiled reliably even when Im going under 25mph.
  8. I put my new Ermax tall screen on today. I think I like it, it's much wider in person then in the pictures and it will only clear the handguards in the low position. It does deflect wind better off my torso and shoulders better then my stock screen/Xcreen combo but I get hit on the top of the face shield by the wind. The wind pressure is much more as well going over 70 (I could do triple digits in comfort with the old setup). I'm gonna put the little Xcreen deflector on this one, it should get the wind over my helmet hopefully. The only thing that kind of bugs me is that in direct sunlight it's very brown... But I can probably get used to it.
  9. I have a Xcreen on my stock screen, Im 5'8 and the wind now hits the very top of my helmet. The only complaint is that its a bit floppy in high wind.
  10. I had to borrow the work van this weekend so I just got back from grabbing the bike from the shop. I wanted to try riding around with TCS off, switched it to A and headed back from SF. There's some nice open road a couple miles from home so I figured... why not see how easy it is to get the front wheel up? With TCS on you really have to give it the beans to power hop. I rode away from the light, had it at 5000rpm in first, gave it a quick 1/3 throttle twist and instant 10 oclock wheelie Hehehehehehee
  11. I have experienced the steering wobble you guys are talking about but only with FJR bags on. I had the bike around an indicated 105mph on *ahem* the track... and did notice the bars start to rythmically wobble back and forth, the bike felt steady but the front end was definitely light. It is more likely to shake it's head when changing lanes over big grooves parallel to the bike as well. Nothing scary though, just stay light on the bars and it corrects itself. Without the luggage I haven't noticed anything even up to the speed limiter while accelerating hard.
  12. I got my FJR bags and mounts in today. They look awesome! I'll take some pics tomorrow if I get a chance. Btw I measured the width of the bags at the widest point (the reflector) it's the same width as the handlebars with the stock handguards.
  13. Dang, how are you guys getting over 50mpg? The best I've seen is 48mpg going to visit my parents, but I was going 80. As far as capacity, the light comes on at 4 gallons. To fill the tank up as much as possible the bike needs to be upright. I fuel up sitting on the bike, I let the pump click and then slowly fill it until I see gas sloshing around the bottom of the metal baffle (if that's what it's called). If you don't top it up the way the manual tells you to, then you'll be down at least half a gallon.
  14. Will do when they come in, they're getting shipped from across the country so it probably won't be at least a week. I hope they come in before the 25th, I have to do some work out of town in Carmel so it'll be a beautiful ride down there (and I wont have to stuff my Kriega bag with a couple days clothes).
  15. I bought a set of red FJR bags and found a good deal on the FJ bag mounts on eBay. I also hit up one of my favorite roads, it's like a hiking trail you can drive on. It's not as fun as on the motard though, the road is pretty goaty and there was more then normal traffic today. I bottomed out pretty hard when I hit a ridged pothole that was in a shadow, I cant bomb around in the narrow sections like I can on the XT. Still fun though, especially the road through the hills on the way back.
  16. Third and sixth gear are straight cut.
  17. I installed my Evotech Performance radiator guard today, it's a really nice piece. I like that it's one piece and covers the entire radiator not just the fins, plus it looks more OEM and just has a subtle embossing of their logo in the middle. Installation was kind of a pita though, it mounts to the sides of the radiator so the plastics need to come off. That was fairly quick but I had to remove the bolts from the front of the engine bars and swing them down to get to one of the Allen bolts. I was holding off but took a rock to the radiator and so I ordered it off their eBay page. It was a little more expensive then other models but I think it was worth it.
  18. I got my plates yesterday and installed those last night. Today my kit came from The Tank Slapper, I went with the Scotchgard Pro after watching some comparisons online (the 3m stuff blows everything else away). I figured I'd start with the headlights and the painted parts above them to save the tank for last since it looked more difficult... The tank was super easy, the front of the bike too forever to get it to fit right. After getting the hang out it it wasn't too hard but still be prepared to take a long time. The only disappointment is the the kit didn't come with anything to cover the top of the tank under the handlebars.
  19. My hot weather riding gear is the same stuff I use year round. The jacket has a waterproof and warm liner. It's been over a 100* this month but with the arm, chest and back vents open it's comfortable. Rev'it Sands Jacket Klim pants (I forget the model, but they're offroad with mesh in the crotch area) Dianese 4 Stroke Evo gloves
  20. So the French mounts work with the FJ bags too?
  21. I guess it evolved from the pointy supermoto style fender. People would but them on their Ktm's with rally fairings. Or just to slightly resemble older endure bikes? It looks ridiculous to have the beak and a front fender. I don't get it either...
  22. Hahaha if you think the BMW looks like a platypus, check out the new Strom 650XT...
  23. Does anyone have issues with clearance for the shift lever? I like wearing large MX type boots (protection and comfort) compared to more sport styled but I've had issues with shifting on some bikes. I sat on the FJ a while ago and it seemed a bit tight.
