  1. That sounds like big fun! A two up ride can really open your eyes as to what's possible. Back in about '96 I was doing a Reg Pridmore CLASS riding school at Road Atlanta. They were offering rides behind Jason Pridmore and I signed up. At the time, the CLASS instructors were using '96 VFR750s ( I was on a '95) with the exact same tires I was using. We did two laps. The first lap, I was sure I was going to die. We were passing everybody, leaning way farther and taking the turns much faster than I did previously. By the second lap, I didn't want to stop. It was great. And the fact that we were on the same bike / tire combination that I had gave me a huge dose of confidence in what my bike was capable of. My riding improved immediately in the remaining sessions. It was a great experience. I did the CLASS session again the following year, but Jason's leg had a metal cage around it from a racing incident, so no rides. But overall, those two laps drastically improved my riding. Still slow, but improved! Cheers! Craig
  2. Lot's of good information. Thanks! I think I'll order something from Revzilla just to get some free shipping... Craig
  3. Oh well, lesson learned. Luckily I think the seat on the new bike is OK, so I shouldn't have to go through this again for a while. By the way, I don't have a Tracer anymore, but I'm going to stick around on this forum. It's much more polite than some of the others, and I already learned a better way to lube the chain on my wee-strom! Cheers! Craig
  4. Thanks, Krusty! I figured I might have just been jaded by all the "free shipping" from everywhere. But I was hoping there might be some insider secret. The free motorcycle delivery is certainly a good idea though. "Honey, I'm going to Seattle!" Thanks, Craig
  5. Hi Folks, I have a question about shipping. I listed a seat for a bike I no longer have. I thought shipping might be $10-20, but I admittedly haven't shipped anything in a while. When I was asked to check a shipping price, my online estimates were ~$60. I thought that couldn't be right, so I took it down to UPS and they quoted $68! But they did say that the price changes every day with Wednesday being the least expensive day to ship. She said it might be as little as $30 on Wednesday. So it looks like I will lose money on the seat, and that's OK (I paid too much overseas). But I was wondering if I'm missing something on the shipping or is this what you all deal with when you ship something? For instance, I see a Corbin seat for sale that will be very heavy, I can only imagine how much shipping might be for that. Am I just that out of touch or is there a trick that I'm missing? Cheers! Craig
  6. Hi Folks, I edited this because I found out how expensive shipping is if you're not a business. For this seat, shipping could be anywhere from $30 to $68 to the lower 48. I was a bit disappointed. I know I can't ask someone to pay what I have in the seat and also pay for shipping, so I'm including shipping in the price. Also removed the oil filters because you can get those anywhere and the extra weight isn't worth the cost. Here is my revised ad. Sorry for any confusion, mostly on my part. I ordered a comfort seat from Austria about two months ago, and it finally came in last week. Unfortunately, I had already decided to trade my Tracer on a 2022 Moto Guzzi V85TT Travel. I put the stock seat back on for the trade, but I did manage to get a nice ~200 mile ride in on the seat before I traded the bike. I have to say it's a great improvement. We're not talking Goldwing or Harley plush, but it's much better, and you can feel the additional padding. The seat is black with silver-ish stitching. Cat not included. I will ship to the lower 48 for $250 OBO. I will also include my version of the seat slope mod, which may not be as refined as the popular one offered here, but you can't see it when the seat is on. It plugs the seat into the top slot in front and the back slot in the rear. No effect on the tank mount.
  7. Hi Bernard, I needed something last September when I got my GT. There wasn't anything available then. Glad Givi has come up with something though. Craig
  8. Sorry, I didn't know how different the SW Motech and Tanklock systems were. I would say I'm surprised SW or Givi haven't come up with a solution for the T9GT, but I'm really more surprised that Yamaha designed the bike with that plastic piece in the way in the first place. Probably the same guy who designed the seat... Cheers! Craig
  9. Hi Petshark, Here are the pics. I used metal spacers under the tanklock ring to raise it up at the front high enough to clear the plastic piece. The front / center one is about 3/8 of an inch and the two on the side are about 1/4 of an inch. I have a bench grinder, so it was easy to modify the spacers until I got it right. Then I realized the fuel filler wouldn't open all the way because the tank ring wasn't flat, so I had to cut out the center portion at the back. And that is also why I used the top three holes. Finally, I JB Welded the ring and flange together for extra strength. And I like JB Weld. I sounds more complicated than it was, and it works great. Let me know if this isn't helpful. For everyone else: I would have sent this in a PM to Petshark, but don' know how to link pics from a URL. Sorry! Cheers! Craig
  10. The T9GT has the plastic piece in front of the fuel cap, which means the bag has to be elevated to fit. To get around this (last September when nothing was available...) I used some metal spacers to raise the front of the mount so that the bag would clear the plastic piece, and shaved some off the back of the mount so that the cap would open fully. But it is definitely doable. I used a slightly taller spacer at the front and two shorter ones on the side. Looks pretty good if I say so myself! I can send you some pics if that doesn't make sense. Craig
  11. Congratulations! I like the Tech Camo scheme. Looks very cool. Cheers! Craig
  12. My dealer first wanted me to bring the bike in, drop it off and they'd call me when it was ready. I said "So you want me to make two 2 hour round-trips to get something done that will take 30 minutes?" He said "Yes." I explained why this was absurd and we came to an agreement that I could call the following week and he would book an appointment. When I called, he said that they have ordered a part for one of the recalls and would call me when it came in. He assured me they would call, since they have never called me back about anything. This was about 6 weeks ago. The bike runs fine and I'm not worried about it. But the dealer has not done anything make my Yamaha ownership a pleasant experience. When I picked up the bike, the decorative piece that goes in front of the seat was missing. I called about it last September right after I got the bike home. I didn't get the part until January. I called about once a month to see where it was. They should have given me the one off the bike in the showroom, but said they couldn't do that. They suck. Sorry for the rant. Maybe someone will buy my bike and their dealer will be better? Cheers! Craig
  13. I am selling my T9 GT. It's a fantastic bike, as you all know, just not my cup of tea. 3,164 miles as of today. Bike is like new. No scratches or damage. Adult ridden. Garmin mount, top case and tank bag not included. Will leave Shad plate and GIVI tanklock mount if desired. Bike is in Madison, Alabama. Will be happy to provide more info or pics, but it looks like a brand new bike. Under warranty until 9/22. The seat is raised in the front to alleviate the slope, but can be put back to stock in seconds. When I bought this bike, I thought it would replace my 390 Duke in the sportbike department. Turns out it doesn't, for me anyway. So I plan to get another one. I already have a touring bike, and this is too fine a bike to let sit. There are a lot of things about it I will miss. Quite honestly, the seat is not one of them. But it seems to be fine for some riders. Cheers! Craig
  14. Hi flyfifer, Here are some pics of the bag that might help. The givi mount is pretty far forward and there are no pre-drilled holes in the bottom like some other bags I've seen. The front of the bag is where that tab is on the left. The bottle inside (for scale) is 500ml. (Didn't have a banana...) Cheers! Craig
