  1. Great Idea for a thread. I have to say my best support so far has been from Adv Depot. It help that they are fairly close to me, but I've ordered a few screens from them and an outlet. They've been great with communication and when I couldn't be there before close, coordinated a drop location (they actually offered to have someone drive it out my way, but I couldn't do that for something so inexpensive). They don't have a pickup option, but I end up reaching out to them and they wave the shipping so I can get the products.
  2. I went with the sh39, and as I always have my top case on, and hardly ever my side cases, I wish I would have gone with one of the larger top boxes. I always have a tire patch kit, guage, rain poncho and a few tools in there. I have to move things around to get my helmet to fit. I cannot fit a helmet and jacket. I'm not 100% sure, but I also think the build quality on the sh39 may not be as good. While mine has held up fine, it feels a little more cheaply made than the sh36's. And I've read the opposite about the 46 and 49. If your concerned about looks, I had to request the carbon fiber plate to make mine match, so there may be a similar item for the 46 and 49.
  3. didn't read through the whole thread, but I was at the demo event near me today to ride the FJR. Talked to the service tech and he said it is not a recall per-say but they will fix bikes with the issue. They have to tear into it and see that it is the CCT and will replace it even beyond warranty at no cost. It is only on a case base case basis it seems but they said they did have one in right now getting it done. I'm at 8500 miles on mine bought last April and I've heard no noise that I've noticed. I have had the clutch squeal twice which was a bit unnerving, but i'm hoping it is a very rare occurrence. I commute as often as I can on the bike, and I have noticed recently the non start in the mornings again. I've also noticed if I flick the kill switch off and then on first it seems to fire every time although it almost sounds like its not going to fire over.
  4. Zachd, what kind of seat cover is that? Does it slide around at all? Does it get hot?
  5. My tire looked pretty close to DeerSlayer's after 4950 miles. I may have had a little more tread on the edges or less in the middle. I had a slit just like what is on his tire. I had been planning to change it soon, but went to ride to work on Tuesday and I could flat feet both feet. Well that was because the tire was flat. I had it changed yesterday to a Michelin Pilot Road 4. Edit: should mention this is mostly commute and long distance miles. I'm not quite there yet for extreme leans (have scraped a peg on this bike).
  6. I have a nelson riggs that looks quite similar, and I believe will hold a full face if it is unzipped fully. It also has a rain cover that will go over it and unzips as well to cover it while fully expanded. The first picture is zipped up and the second is fully loaded, although a little hard to see.
  7. I did my 650 mile oil change with Mobil 1 4t 10w-40. I've had good luck with mobil 1 syntehtic in the past. I swear I can change at 5k in my truck and it still almost looks new. Didn't realize there could be an issue with syntehtic early on, never heard of such a thing.
  8. This is a couple of days worth of mods but didn't get a chance for pics. I've added the SW-motech crash bars (on bay from germany, but now in stock stateside), Seatconcepts Seat, and Ermax Touring screen. The crash bars look great and feel solid. I do wonder if stripping an engine mount is possible in a crash however. i did not get the gripper seat, but instead the full carbon. I feel this was a mistake as i slide around alot on the carbon and with the narrower front I am forced forward. It takes more effort to ride to the back of the seat pan and I feel like i could slide off the side almost. I'm not sure how a pillion would feel on the back seat and this worries me a bit. The Ermax touring screen in the low position seems to put air just higher than the stock screen in the widest position. In the highest position the handguards hit the windscreen and cause it to flex until they pop into the cutout or out of them. I only rode in the low position but I can duck just below and it is virtually silent (with earplugs). I haven't tried no screen but will do this soon as I think i may end up preferring a shorty screen as riding in clean air when i stand seems to be most preferable. With this screen my helmet at least doesn't seem to be getting plastered with bugs like the stock. I can also tell the wind is pushed more outside as i feel much more wind on my hands even behind the handguards (may be an issue in the winter). Edit: I'm 5'6 Now for the pics:
  9. There was a previous post somewhere that might have had additional info, but I use the Nelson Riggs Extra large from amazon for like $40. It fits over the bike completely with room to spare. It can be put on hot as well. When wet water does seep through a little but usually only on the seats. My large was great that i used on my FZ6R (sold with the bike), but my extra large did get a slight tear, not sure how. There are a lot of pieces on the bike to get caught on a cover.
  10. That looks stylish and functional jimf, it reminds me a bit of the dash from knight rider:
  11. Which Highway pegs are these can you post a link? Thanks, Edit, I think I found them. MFW Highway Peg mounts black with the Super Grip Pegs about $150 at adventure depot: http://advdepot.com/mfw-highway-peg-kit.html
  12. I'm planning on picking up a pair of the sw motech bars, and will likely even sooner now thanks to your pictures. Appreciate all of the angles as this is very helpful. A question to anyone really though is this looks like great protection for the front (clutch cover, water pump, transmission cover), but what about farther back? Can anyone make any suggestions about what additional protection they might use with these bars if at all required? Maybe nothing more is needed but i'm thinking in terms of a low slide. I will likely be getting panniers which if on would take the brunt of any of that damage, but don't plan to leave them on all the time.
  13. I just got the new bell revolver evo a few weeks ago for my fz6r. The new model is supposed to have greatly cut down on wind noise. Bottom line is, it's terrible. So loud I couldn't use it. I hear wind whistling around the modular seems. I'm hoping on the fj it will be quieter with a better windscreen but will have to see. Have you noticed anything similar? I switched back to my hjc is-maxx BT. I thought that was loud until I wore the evo.
