  1. Picked mine up from the dealer after having the handlebar recall done. They apparently left it out in the rain overnight... it's filthy.
  2. Best of luck, but it's not just power to weight... I drag raced competitively for about 5 years, and I know exactly what it takes to run 9's. Drag bikes are long and low for a reason.
  3. I used the MPS kill switch on a couple of bikes when I was drag racing seriously. Good kit. Don't think you're going to run 9s on an FJ9....
  4. I always ran that combo on my 'Busa, and they generally wore out at the same rate. Good all 'round setup. I bought PR4s for the FJ9 this time, still not through the set yet, so no long term judgements. I do like them though. I was happy to get the FJ out today after a couple of months of neglect due to crappy weather.
  5. I think you're over thinking it a bit... I wouldn't want the harness rubbing against exposed threads on the bolts, but other than that just arrange it however it goes together the easiest, and still provides easy access to the bolts, and nothing is stretched when turning the bars lock to lock. I don't recall any issues that required a particular orientation for anything, but I've slept since I put them on... LOL
  6. Looks like a typical front end stand... should be going into the steering head.
  7. Just make sure you know what you're going to get charged for shipping before ordering... I checked the vendor mentioned earlier in the thread that lists them for $59 and they wanted $35 for shipping! I ended up finding a set on Amazon...
  8. Am I seeing things, or is the bottom of the radiator guard attached with zip ties?
  9. +1 on the PR4s. Just returned from a 3700 mile trip and they are FAR superior to the stock Dunlops. Didn't get into any heavy rain, so I can't comment there, but as bad as the Dunlops were, they certainly couldn't be worse. Just the hint of a flat spot showing on the rear (after affect of crossing SD, twice, plus all the other non-twisty riding). With most of my local riding being twisty roads, the wear should even out nicely.
  10. One thing (the only thing really...) I miss from my ST4S is the hydraulic preload adjuster for the rear... very handy! No spanner required to load up the bike.
  11. The other day I raised the fork tubes 5mm in the triples (lowering the front). Did a great job of taming some of the 'flightiness' without reducing the quick steering nature of the bike. I'm hoping this will contribute to better stability at highway speeds, especially when loaded. Worked great with my VStrom many years ago...
  12. It's a Zumo 550 (getting old... will probably upgrade next year), and I made the mount myself. GPS mount
  13. Now I'm doubly glad I opted for the APE manual tensioner... if this goes anything like the fiasco with the factory heated grips, it'll be next spring before many folks are enjoying their bikes! The manual tensioner is dead simple, cheap, and a 20 minute install. It really is a no-brainer!
  14. FYI, the KTM guards are still wider than the factory Yamaha hard bags. I made a couple of slight adjustments to mine over the last couple of rides, and the aerodynamics of the KTM guards are far better than the stockers.
  15. Ouch... glad you're OK. Today was farkle day here. Installed KTM handguards, factory heated grips, filled the bars with BBs, and installed a Beadrider. KTM handguards: I guess I must be getting old, 'cause I always made fun of bead seats, and now I've bought one... LOL Initial impressions are that it distributes weight a little better, but I haven't had a chance to take it out for a ride yet. I have a trip coming up that will entail several 600+ mile days in a row, and I wanted to do something to improve that stock seat, but had limited time and funds. We'll see how it works...
  16. Installed my KTM handguards and factory heated grips today. Here's a shot showing the width difference from stock to KTM... I also took the opportunity while everything was apart to fill the bars with 1.5 lbs of BBs... hopefully that will smooth things out a little. FYI, that worked out to a little less than 1/2 of one of these: I bought two, so apparently my volume estimator needs some recalibration....
  17. Took it for a ride with brand new PR4s, and a new APE cam chain tensioner. Many smiles!
  18. IMHO, just order the APE tensioner and install it. Instant peace of mind, and about the same $ (assuming they charge you for the part). I was amazed at how much noise mine was making before I swapped it out, and how quiet it was after. Between the gradual increase in noise, and earplugs I hadn't realized how bad it was!
  19. I don't mind the width... it's the aerodynamics of the stock handguards that bugs me.
  20. Mounted up some PR4s and cleaned/lubed the chain. Hopefully installing a manual CCT tomorrow, if it arrives as scheduled....
  21. FYI, I just ordered a set of the KTM handguards. I went to order them from the KTMTwins site referenced earlier in the thread, and they still list them for $59.99. However, they wanted $35.00 to ship from CA to AZ! I ended up finding a set on Amazon for $74.99 with free shipping.
