  2. I feel that I owe it to Dave at Vcyclenut to write this review, not just for the excellent product but going above and beyond with service. In short, Dave's ECU flash is amazing. The bike is smoother everywhere and has noticeable power gains when paired with the Akrapovic racing carbon system. Of course having the throttle restrictions removed (mainly 2nd gear) also opens up more riding options as you have roll-on power in every gear. However, I had MPG problems that popped up; alarmingly low MPG after the flash. This led me to believe the flash was bad, or at the very least running rich. I contacted Dave through email and explained the low MPG after the flash. He said I could send the ECU back and he could trim back the fuel where cruising RPMs fell. Before resorting to that, I ran two full tanks through the bike with fuel additive to make sure I didn't have a fueling problem, nope, still bad MPG. Riding buddies also mentioned a strong smell of gasoline when riding behind me. I reported everything I was experiencing to Dave over email, this is where he went above and beyond. We had an 11 email back-and-forth where Dave offered various options to solve the problem, and many detailed explanations on how tuning works and varying possibilities between swapping exhausts, baffles, trimming the fuel at specific revs, etc. However, as I mentioned in another thread I cleaned the TPS after the bike stalled on me twice; this also fixed my MPG issue. I apologized to Dave for pointing my finger at the flash potentially being faulty, and thanked him for providing an amazing product and extraordinary service. You can find praise for Dave's flashes all over the internet, but I'm truly impressed by his service in answering all of my questions; not just with brief responses, but with detailed explanations that often answered why something is the way it is when it comes to the flash and tuning. He's easily reachable by email and phone. Truly reassuring when a service provider actually serves their customers. 100% recommend the flash, without pause.
  3. The more I ride mine the more I like it. Every bike has its shortfalls. You either learn to live with it or learn to fix it. My Veridian cruise control should arrive soon so that'll be one thing crossed off the list. Don't know of I'd even bother with getting an ECU flash, if one comes available. I don't think it runs that bad.
  4. Last year when i was riding in 4th gear about 60-70 kmh it felt not smooth , like the chain was worn . I got a qoute for ECU flash with Dyno run for 650 $ , so I ordered rapid bike easy for 150 $ . Today i plugged it in and it was smoother , not wow smoother but noticable . New picture in the sun so the blue pop , i also painted the cover by the headlight .
  5. I have been retired since 56 and am now 62 years old, six foot one inch tall and weigh 180 pounds. I bought a 2019 Tracer GT as a retirement gift to myself and am completely happy with the bike. I had to do a custom seat as the stock one was a poor fit for my backside. I could only go about 100 miles before it became very uncomfortable. Otherwise, I am totally happy with the bike. It fits me very well. I take it on trips for days at a time and use it like a sport bike on local rides. For me, it really does it all. I did some suspension upgrades, not that they were necessary, but I did feel the stock suspension was a bit soft for my liking, particularly the rear shock. The earlier Yamaha triples had some fueling issues. The throttle response could be a bit abrupt. These were slowly ironed out with subsequent models. However a good ECU flash fixes this. In the end, you have to find the bike that best fits you, but I don't think you can go wrong with the Tracer. Good luck in your search.
  6. Hey does anyone know how to access and remove the ecu on the 2021 tracer 9 gt ?? Is it the same as the mt09 ? I can’t find any YouTube or any articles on how to remove the ecu for mooremafia flash . thanks for any information.
  7. Totally recommend VCycleNut's ECU flash. Got it done after the break-in period on my '22 T9GT. Has remedied and transformed the bike. You can read others' frustrations on 2nd gear, non-consistent drive-ability and other issues when using stock ECU in many threads on this forum. While the getting the recalls completed will help, you're better off getting the ECU flashed and aftermarket exhaust.
  8. I bought a 15 FJ 40k miles a couple years ago. I am at the point where I want to address the on-off twitchy throttle. I asked the second owner if he had any flash done. He said NO and didn't know if the first owner had anything done. I went to Yamaha service today and asked if they can hook up and look at it to see if any changes were done. He looked up VIN and said there is no longer a "code 90" for my bike....think that is where Yam does fixes as a warranty. He said he would have to attach a laptop and have YAM download a PDF without knowing if he could do anything on the throttle. ?? I know nothing about it and am asking what the options are.....aftermarket tuner? Taking bike to dealer? EDIT: Just realized I am in GT.....let me know if I need to do a thread in FJ section.
  9. Rode to the dealer this morning to have the tech look at the bike to see what was going on. He plugged in my ECU to have a look, and his explanation makes sense and I'm sorted out now. According to the tech: When a dealer flashes the ECU with an Yamaha updated map it replaces the old fuel map. Which I think we all know and makes sense. However, what I didn't consider and what was explained to me is that it also resets any adaptations/learning the ECU has done through the narrow band O2 sensor. In my case I have a full Akrapovic system, so by doing the Yamaha recall I got flashed a fuel map which is designed for stock exhaust, and then had any prior ECU fueling adaptations/learning wiped. So my bike obviously ran like crap compared to someone with a stock exhaust who would have a proper base fuel map to start with after the recall ECU flash. According to the tech the solution is to let the bike heat cycle at various ambient temperatures so the ECU can build a proper fuel map off of the O2 sensor, then turn it off. He also stated to tell everyone I know as he believes this is applicable to not only Yamaha, but any Euro 5 bike and newer. Sure enough, we let the bike idle until the fans started spinning then waited another minute and turned off the bike. We talked some more and had me sign the recall paperwork. He advised to do another heat cycle either at night or in the morning so the ECU can learn some more when the ambient temp is cooler and drier; combined with some more variable riding ECU should figure it out, verbatim he said "just play with it". When I rode home the idle seemed proper with no hesitation on launch and the deceleration hiccups are mostly gone. Completely different bike than what I rode an hour earlier to the shop. Of course he also stated an ECU tune specifically for the exhaust is the end goal and the best solution; I gotta find some downtime and send mine off to Vcyclenut. Funnily enough, the tech also brought up the undesirable clutch behavior that has been mentioned by a few in this forum. He says he's found that the 2021+ CP3 bikes should ignore the manual spec for measuring at the lever end with 5mm-10mm of free-play. He stated to measure at the clutch perch for free-play of 3mm, or two sandwiched US pennies. We made this adjustment at the shop and it definitely feels better to me.
  10. I installed the full exhaust recently and am loving it. I am planning on sending my ecu out to get flashed during the winter but for now am just enjoying my bike. I came across a thread here that mentioned without the flash my bike can actually be down HP with the Akro? Does anybody have any hard data confirming this? My seat of pants feeling is not noticing any loss of HP so I am asking you guys.... cheers
  11. Had the latest ECU recall service done on my 2021 today, the original I think it was 2022 recall for the ECU flash because of low speed stalling (I experienced 2x) and other issues. I felt this flash was good with the exception of the decel fuel kick in at 3k rpms (The sudden lack of engine braking), but I lived with it and while I did consider this harsh, I just programmed my self to expect it and adapt to it. It was better then (or is it "better than") the issues that it fixed. This latest flash I think might do it. Decel to 3k the fuel kick in is super smooth with now notes of burbling and some popping. I'm not sure if they just just use less fuel initially (most likely) or maybe do a "skip cylinder" and during decel don't fire all cylinders and alternate among them to tone down the kick. I only have 40 miles on the new flash.. but I'm really liking it. Everything else about the engine performance and quick shifter behavior is business as usual. I did have the O2 sensor recall done and they did not find any corrosion and just boot and taped everything. I'm kind of surprised that is all that they did. My bike is my daily out of 3.5 seasons of the year, rain is rain and nothing more then needing to put on my rain suit.
  12. I have the above bike. Previous owner had the ECU Flashed and installed an aftermarket cruise. Over the past year I would lose power / stall out and receive the 059 Code ( Accelerator Position Sensor ). Generally, I can let the bike sit a while and restart with no issues( sometimes for months ) . Six weeks ago it happened, there was no restarting and I had to trailer it home. Now the code is cleared and it will run fine. Thoughts on how to troubleshoot this problem? Fuses look good. My thoughts: 1) Check / replace the APS. 2) Disconnect the Cruise ( not sure what needs to be done to do this ). 3) Send the ECU back to be returned to stock. The company that did the Flash claims there is no way this could be the problem. Thoughts? Thanks in advance for any insights.
  13. Did you get any of the factory recalls done yet, specifically the ECU? Many have reported once the ECU recall flash was done it took care of the issues you're seeing.
  14. No I did the recall flash first and then sent my ecu off to him and he could not do the performance flash . Something to do with the recall flash changing and so he didn’t have the new software for it . So either we waited for them to release the new program , and he send back my ecu to me , or the other option was to send it off to woolich . They drill into the ecu and somehow get the code , and then they fill the hole back in and send the ecu back . And after that I assume he’ll have the new software program or code for future customers . I’m not too familiar with that kind of stuff I just know what David told me . So now I’m just waiting for it to come back . I’ll post an update once I get everything installed and take a ride on it .
  15. Hello members!! Had my ecu flashed a couple weeks ago and the heated grips do not get power. I have continuity, proper resistance, and wiring is fine and was not touched. No power is going to the grips as tested via multimeter. It turns on in the instrument panel and menus, but no heat. Reading the service manual doesn't assist much. Maybe the yamaha diagnostic tool can reactive them in the ecu??? Reached out to the tuner with no response after 3 attempts. Need help!
  16. About to install the scorpion slip-on on my 2018. Do I need to flash the ECU afterwards? Also, are there issues with taking out the baffle?
  17. Has anyone had their Tracer 900 GT flashed in New Zealand? If so,can they recommend someone?
  18. Hey guys , I bought my bike in June of this year , and the previous owner never did the recalls so I brought mine in and got it done . Before I had the chance my bike died out on me doing 90 down the highway . Totally freaked me out it was nighttime , and once I got pulled over my bike was stuck in 3 gear on the display; although I could feel it shifting and was able to roll it in neutral. Finally after a few minutes it started right up and was fine . After that I got it right in to the dealer . I rode it for about a month and thought it ran like crap with my akropovic exhaust system . So,now my ecu is getting flashed by vcyclenut , and I am installing a dna stage 2 lid compliments of vcyclenut . but somehow doing the recall changed the flash software that he had . so my ecu is getting sent out to woolich ; so that he can have the software in house from now on if I’m not mistaken. I think the recall changed something to do with the original program . So hopefully all goes well and I’ll have my mods in the mail soon ! and thankfully for this forum I was able to learn about vcyclenut . He’s Someone who actually has real time knowledge and experience on the mt09 motor and knows what tweaks are best for our machines . I also am going down one tooth on the front sprocket because I want my bike to have more torque and wheelie on command instead of having that flat spot before shooting off like a rocket . but anyhow I thought you guys would like to know the issues I’m having with a flash after that recall . hopefully my ecu getting sent off to woollich will fix this issue for future customers . ride safe guys ! danny-
  19. My ECU for my 2019 GT is on it's way to Ivan's Performance. I should have it back later this week and I will update this post with my opinion of the results. Along with the "normal" ECU changes, I'm having the cruise control limitations removed (will be able to set cruise at any speed and in any gear)
  20. Howdy folks, Just wanted to chip in here and share my experience - both for installation and performance - so far with my 2017 FJ-09 and the Akrapovic Ti full system exhaust. I put just over 2k miles on my brand new FJ with the stock exhaust before pulling the trigger on the new Akra. (Revzilla helped to ease the pain with a small deal on Black Friday!) Installation There's not much to say about installation - it was a breeze. I have a rear swingarm spool stand so I popped the rear end up with and left the FJ's center stand and kickstand in the up position. After the old system was unbolted, I had to push the center stand down to wiggle the stock exhaust out through it, but it wasn't hard. A 2nd set of hands for this task would have helped a bit. Installation of the Akra was easier than removing the stock system because it comes in two parts. When installing the headers, make sure you leave the bolts loose so that you can wiggle the headers around while slipping the muffler on underneath. Also, when it comes to reattaching the exhaust sensor, twist the exhaust sensor counter-clockwise several times before screwing it in, so that you put a slight twist in the wires in the opposite direction - as the exhaust sensor is tightened, it will unwind and settle into place with no twist at all if you do it right. In this next pic you can see how I had to lower the center stand a bit to slip the old system out and slip the new one in. The center stand isn't holding any weight - it was just down enough to be past the point of return from the springs. Having the rear end on my swingarm stand really helped give me the clearance the center stand needed. When you're all done, be sure to give the entire header system a thorough wipe down with WD-40 to remove greasy fingerprints and other residue. This will help the coloration during the header burn in period. And I'm sure you all have seen it installed before, but here's mine The sound is great - it's louder than stock, but I wouldn't actually call it loud. It's just there. The sound is deep and refreshing, but not annoying like my Ninja 650 with the Yoshi full system and no baffle. The bike sounds... alive! Wind noise is still prevalent at highway speed. Without the ECU flash, there is some light popping/gurgling when engine braking. I was always planning on doing the ECU flash, but I had to ride it without flashing first to get a baseline comparison on sound and performance. So, about performance... I've seen a few places (here on the forum, and on Reddit) that suggest you don't need to flash the ECU for the 2017 model if you go with the full system Akra Ti. Some of them even went so far as to suggest that because Yamaha was at one point selling the Akra Ti as an official accessory, it didn't require the flash. Irrespective of how silly I think that sounds, I am only here to share my personal experience. The Akra Ti full system with no ECU flash wiped out the bottom end. Top end did improve a little bit, but the bike is noticeably slower when accelerating in gears 2-6 from lower in the RPM range. I was really surprised to feel such a big difference. I don't typically wring out the top end to redline, so I can't speak too much about the high-rpm power gain; however, 1st gear power wheelies are probably one of my favorite things about the bike, and they seemed to be easier in the higher end of 1st gear than with the stock exhaust. FlashTune ECU Experience I purchased the Bench Side flash tune kit from Revzilla. I've never flashed an ECU before, but I was confident that I'd figure it out as I go. I did not attempt to custom create my own mapping - for that, I don't know enough and wouldn't try to do it without diving deeper into the theory first. Flash Tune has several third party maps available for quick flashing, but sadly none for the Akra Ti. However, the Power Commander website has mappings for the Akra Ti for both baffle in and baffle out, and the Flash Tune software has a feature to import PC map files and automatically apply them. (This feature took me awhile to come across, but it's under the "ECU Modules" folder and it's titled "PC Fuel Import" for anyone else wanting to do as I did). Here is a comparison of the stock TPS vs RPM (for cylinder #3) chart to the custom chart for the same cylinder (left chart is custom, right chart is stock). Now I don't know enough to explain exactly what each value represents, but I can infer that the custom mapping is adding a whole lot more 'something' (fuel?) in the 3500 - 4500 range just under 50% throttle. This is just a single cylinder, but the other two cylinders are very similar (though not exactly the same). The Flash Tune software also makes it easy to disable the top speed limiter (which I have done), and enable/disable closed loop (which I have left as is). Also, if you're curious, here is how far the bike has to be disassembled to get to the ECU (it's right under the gas tank, attached to the airbox lid): (I removed the airbox lid to take a look at the air filter and throttle bodies, so the plastic bag is keeping debris out of the throttle body openings) So this is how the bike is currently sitting and since i have it apart, I am going to do the first throttle body check/sync today before putting it all back together. I'm a bit overdue for the first check according to the owners manual, so I'm eager to see how they turn out. I will report back on the performance after my first ride with the new ECU flash once I get everything back together. Post-ECU Flash Update Scroll down to post #4
  21. Yes ECU is pretty much the same as MT-09. Both are under the tank, on the air filter. Just a few more layers of plastic to pull off. I used this MT-09 video to get an idea. I also checked my air filter while I was there and just needed a quick shake and clean. As for the ECU flashes, luckily I have 2 in the area...2 wheel dyno works and Vcyclenut. I chose Vcyclenut as he provided real world testing on his MT-09 including charts and other variables like exhaust and air filter improvements. https://www.vcyclenut.com/2021---23-mt09--tracer-gt2022-xsr900.html A world of improvement when you flash your ECU and if you have upgraded your exhaust. Much more refined throttle in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears instead and overall smoothness in all the ranges. Good luck on your ECU flash and let us know how it goes!
  22. Recently had my 2016 left over Dealer Demo, completely stock, FJ-09 ECU flashed by 2WDW at 4,000 miles. Highly recommended. Bike started right up defaulting to A Mode and runs great! Greatly smooths out roll on/roll off. No more abrupt jerky surprises!. My question is: Now after 2WDW flash, with ignition keyed on, BUT with engine not running, I can hear the wine of the Servo Motor circuit and when I twist the throttle, servo motor grinds & rotates the throttle pates. When I twist throttle you can hear the servo circuit wine change in pitch. I have had air box off to check all electrical connections, etc. I plugged in Flashed ECU and with ignition keyed on/engine off, I can stand there and twist throttle and hear and watch all three throttle plates rotate. I have chatted with a couple forum members with 2WDW flash and they get no servo motor/throttle plate rotation with ignition on/engine off. I talked with 2WDW and they tell me their FTECU software doesn't have any option to modify any throttle interlocks or any other parameter that controls throttle opening while the bike isn't running. They only have control over the fuel mapping per cylinder (by gear), ignition mapping per cylinder (by gear), throttle-by-wire mapping per rider mode (by gear), the diagnostic code manager, fan temperature control, and closed loop operation control. Basically, their Flash of my ECU did not, could not change the ECU to servo motor interlock. Can some other members both with Stock ECU and with a 2WDW ECU flash confirm if and when you get Servo Motor rotating throttle body plates? With engine running you will not be able to hear the servo motor rotating plates, but now, I certainly can with engine ignition on/engine off. Thanks.
  23. A 2015, at least, will power wheelie just fine in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. I may be wrong about this, but I've never noticed TC intervening in one-wheel antics, and I don't see any sort of sensor that would allow it to do so; it's using the ABS wheel speed sensors to deal with traction (quite well and very smoothly, in my opinion). Then again, I can't say I'm staring at the TC light when the front end comes up. Again, if I'm wrong and the 2015 TC does somehow know when you've been naughty, please explain how it does this. Is there a pitch sensor or something in the ECU? To the OP: the TC, ABS, and other warning lights briefly illuminate when you turn the key on (this is simply to verify that the lights are functioning), then all but the ABS light go out. The ABS light stays on when you start the bike, and goes off after you ride 25 feet or so and it verifies that the speed sensors are working. If you manually turn off TC, the TC warning light will stay on. If you activate TC (for example, accelerating on a slippery bit of road) the warning light will flash, although it's usually not something you notice because your attention is (or should be) otherwise occupied with more important matters. I once was hauling the mail down a very twisty bit of road in Missouri, and felt that I wasn't getting quite the drive I expected out of corner exits. I then noticed that the TC was activating on many corner exits. It turns out that it had been so dry in those parts that the road was a lot dustier and traction was a fair bit less than I anticipated. Yamaha's TC is very smooth... I dialed things down quite a bit after that.
  24. Im not sure Im following. If you had Vcyclenut's flash and then had Yamaha perform the recall, then yes, they overwrote his flash. Are you saying that now that Yamaha has re-flashed your ECU that it is not compatible to be reflashed by Vcyclenut? Or did it invalidate the license he used for your flash?
  25. I'm getting a ECU flash done. I've done my research and have settled on a Dutch tuner with a great reputation that uses Woolich software (which is supposed to be the best). I'm looking for smoother throttle control and am less interested in lifting the top speed limits or even adding HP. There are a lot of options in the flash so I figured I'd check with the community if there are any specific options that you would recommend to change, wished you had changed or the reverse; things you wished you had left alone. Features available for Yamaha MT-09 Tracer GT 2018-2020 IAP Fuel Maps TPS Fuel Maps Ignition Timing Maps Ignition Dwell Map/s Electronic Throttle Valve (ETV) Maps Coolant Temp Idle Compensation Adjust RPM Limiter Adjust Fan Temperature Disable Stock O2 Sensor Disable Deceleration Fuel Cut Disable PAIR Valve / AIS Disable Top Speed Limiter Engine Data - View Live Engine Data Woolich Racing AutoTune - (Requires Applicable LogBox + Zeitronix Package) I'm aware that most people just let the tuner do their thing, so if there are no tips, that's what I'll do. I would like to be able to activate the cruise control at any speed, also low ones. It's great to roll around a parking lot and focus an dipping deep and turning sharp at a set speed without having to hold the throttle. The tuner does not have it in his standard flash and wasn't sure if it could be done. If anyone has this in a Woolich flash please let me know so I can confirm that it is possible.
