  1. Guilford Lake State Park 32220 Co Hwy 411 Hanoverton, OH 44423. Coordinates 40.802889 N, -80.895389 W - Ride to eat, ride some more. There are plenty of picnic tables on the lawn along Teegarden Road, some in the shade. The shelter was closed last weekend. Central Ohio riders can meet at the Circle K in Johnstown at 8 am. We will take a scenic route.
  2. I spent today riding in the sweet spot between Woodsfield and Marietta, Ohio. Bike ran well on fresh oil and a used up rear tire (5100 miles on a Roadsmart III and it's on the wear bars). Deer were no threat to me, nor were turkeys. One dog tried like hell to catch me. One cager crossed way over the center line on OH 536 while looking over her shoulder. She never knew I was there until I had slipped past her. If I'd been driving a car, it would have been a head-on collision. Otherwise, no worries. I packed a lunch and ate at the rest stop in Fly, watching the river from a shady picnic table.
  3. The route was ambitious and the daylight was ending, so we cut it short to just 401.1 miles on the odometer (405.1 according to the gps). The pic shows the roads we were scouting. Earlier this year a Harley rider in Proctorville had told us that he'll never ride 775 again, there are just too many curves on that road. He was half right. He should stay off that road and leave it to us. Lunch at the Mothman and Urban Legends Bar and Grille (the 'e' on the end makes it classy 😉 ) was burgers and sandwiches - not fancy, but good.
  4. The Fall Colors Ride is a weekend MSTA event held in the 2011 "Coolest Small Town in America" Lewisburg, WV. The riding is great in every direction. The restaurants downtown are excellent. And the ride to and from the event is great, too. It's always a good time, even though we might encounter a little rain that late in the season. Ask people about the weather we had back when this event was at Snowshoe! Things to see - Greenbank National Radio Observatory is a very interesting place to visit, as are the Cass Scenic Railway (steam locomotive goes through switchbacks to get to the top of a mountain) and the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine (you don't need a "canary bird"). Also within easy reach are Seneca Rocks, the John Henry Memorial and what we've come to call the "world's best Dairy Queen." There is no registration fee. All are welcome. For more info go to: MSTA Fall Colors
  5. Ohio MSTA is taking our monthly Lunch Ride to Portsmouth, OH and The Scioto Ribber restaurant. They serve, you guessed it, BBQ ribs along with steaks, chicken, salads, sandwiches, etc... The Ribber opens at NOON on Sunday, so if we're early we'll look at the murals on the flood wall before lunch. The Scioto Ribber 1026 Gallia St, Portsmouth, OH 45662 Central Ohio riders can meet at the Portside Cafe (where we have our monthly breakfast meet) on US 23 just south of OH 665. Gassed up and Ready to Ride at 9 am.
  6. August 19-25 is this year's Fly-by Week in Marietta, OH. Why? The great roads of southeast Ohio and West Virginia entice 100 or so riders to ride all day and kick tires all evening. Planned routes help you find the good roads and If you are looking for someone to ride with, we will have sign-up sheets for each day so you can choose a group based on desired riding style. We have cookouts Friday and Saturday nights. Most people are there for the weekend. If the hotel fills up, there's another across the street. Open to non-members. 2019 MSTA Fly-By Week
  7. Looking for someone to ride with? The MSTA has state chapters and regional events in many of the best riding areas of the US. Our national rally STAR 2019 will be held in Bristol, VA third week of June. Non-members are welcome. At STAR 2019 - "Free seminars on Tuesday evening. Venders will have booths open all evenings, and some in the mornings. Members meeting is Monday evening....please plan to attend.....and most awards will be given out then. Door prizes given out/picked up every day. Main door prizes and raffle prizes given out at the Banquet on Wednesday. They are working on setting up a Saturday evening pub crawl (transportation provided) in the downtown. But really it IS the riding that is the MAIN attraction for most attendees, is it not? And...you don’t have to ride “on your own”. There are always little groups going out that can take on an extra rider. We even have sign-up sheets so that groups can get formed easily. We just don’t do an “everyone line up and follow the leader” HUGE GROUP rides."
