Supporting Member dazzler24 Posted June 7, 2021 Supporting Member Share Posted June 7, 2021 Temperature is just cool enough here to start wearing the rain insert to keep the wind out and stay warm. AKA - excellent riding weather! Took the opportunity to take a short round trip to nowhere in particular and ended up at a little place called Linville - No not the one in Virginia or North Carolina but a little place in Qld AU. A sleepy little spot that is on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail which follows the now long closed rail line where steam and later diesel trains carried goods and people in and out of the area. It now sees hikers and mountain bike riders coming through who follow the rail line path. They sometimes stay overnight for a shower, meal, bed and of course a beer or three in the classic Queenslander hotel - The Linville Hotel - of course. I sampled one (beer that is) with a counter lunch and had a natter to a few older locals who have been in the area 'for ever'. I always enjoy talking to people like this in places like this as you get a feel for how it really is, and was, for any given area - the real deal. After lunch I had a quick wander around the now defunct rail terminal and disintegrating rail carriages - another era. ~300kms round trip. Home in time for another couple of beers with dinner to follow. 🙂 Can't complain! I'm really curious to check out the campsite on the bottom of the sign. With a name like that it's gotta have some character! 3
