I in no way shape or form work for or benefit from this, just passing it on for others looking for a great deal on this particular unit.

I was looking for a replacement for my trusty Garmin Montana 600 since it is now "end of life" and no longer repaired by Garmin.  Google search for the Garmin Zumo 396 LMT-S lead me to a website that had it for $247!!!!

If you go here, and enter $247 for your offer, you will win it and that price is with tax and shipping (it will supposedly tell you if your state will require taxes, for TX it did not).   It's sort of like ebay, since you "bid".  If your offer/bid is rejected it will pretty much tell you what you need to offer/bid to win. I was skeptical, but after reading several reviews and various forum feedback threads, I went for it.

Mine will be delivered via Fedex on Monday.

Forgot to add, these are brand new, in the box units (not refurbs or grey market).

Just and update for the curious.  Got my GPS yesterday.  100% legit, registered and updated with Garmin.  Pretty darn happy to come across this deal since I was looking at used Montana 600 series units on e-bay and they were going for almost as much.

Contemplating getting a GPS. How does it fair vs just using my phone? I would love to have an always mounted GPS that I dont have mount/dismount/take in and out of my pocket ever time I get on or that overheats any time I use it on a bright sunny FL day.

A GPS does not buy you much in urban macro zones if you know generally where you're going.  They're more for creating and following custom routes in more remote areas and/or having a weatherproof option.

However, unless you have great faith in the few GPS mount lock options (which can be easily be defeated IMO), you still would be wise to remove a GPS from view if you're not in eye and sprint distance of tour bike, even with an alarm. They could be gone in 30 seconds.

A good mount and hardwiring a charger for your cell that keeps it in the air flow but under the shield overhang, and running a temp warning app like "Thermal Monitor" let's me run my cell in all but heavy rain in very hot weather.

I just retired the 660, put a 396 on the DR650 & XT on the FJ09, they have different mounts. Link to smart phone, displays traffic information and weather radar. BIGGEST reason is using "My google maps" ( that's a little different than regular google maps) you can draw a route and crocked and many turns as you like, save it, export it, import to the  GPS with Basecamp, Convert track to a route, it will follow the route you drew on the google map. There are some little odd thing to it , but overall it works pretty good. One thing to watch out for, if you get off the route, it doesn't know how to find  it's way back to the route, remember the route isn't a fixed point, its maybe a 300 mile track. So if you get off the route, it recalculates to take you directly to the end of the route. A fix for this is, if you get your self back on the route anywhere, stop the route on the GPS and then restart it, it will pickup where you are and then it's good to go. When ridding the DR650 in the North Carolina Mountains, we can map a days ride on what they refer to to as forest service road.

Thanks for that tip.  I've had that happen and MAN it was frustrating.

I know for me there's no real gain with a GPS unit, but I definitely don't have the same environmental factors.  Waterproofing is a ziplock bag (and an ostensibly waterproof phone, but I never trust that) in a home made wireless charging mount.  I'm in Canada, so overheating is unlikely, and putting it in my RAM mount is definitely not a problem.  

Phone uses GPS as well, so I can pre-download maps and use it outside of cell signal areas, so ... I honestly don't know what adding a GPS unit would do for me - though I'm certainly interested.  

I certainly get it for people who deliberately don't want to bring their phones with them - that's not me, but I definitely understand the POV.
