This is actually covered in the owner's manual, if anyone bothers to read it 😕

I have an engineering degree and therefore am exempt from reading manuals 🙂

When I bought my bike the manual was messed up and the dealer promised one but it never showed up - I would up downloading one.

When Triumph re-emerged in the early '90s, their bikes were set up so that the bike had to crank for two or three seconds before the ignition switched on. Why, I don't really know, but it was very strange.

Maybe to build oil pressure?

Thats possible i guess... I just dont like the sound of a three second starter motor cranking. My bike sits for a week at a time so Ill probably have to live with it.  As previously mentioned my Honda started instantly. Once warm its not an issue.

My 2017 FJ-09 still has the original battery at 17.5k miles.  If it has been idle for too long it is a little slow to fire.  Starts quickly if it's come right off the battery tender, or if I have been riding for consecutive days.
