Rear tire slip at cool temps...

My Tracer only has 2000kms on her but at temps of 7c the other day I could feel rear tire slip with hard acceleration. My TC is set on level 2 so was a little surprised.  Stock tire is Dunlop D222.  Will be replacng with something safer when theyre worn down a bit.  What has more siping and would be grippier at these temps on rural roads?  The stock rear looks like a supersport tire rather than sport tourer.

You need to get heat in the tires for them to grip. Slow speeds and cold road surfaces don't let the tires heat up, you can lower your tire pressure a little to help the tires heat up quicker and retain their heat.

Yep.  Cold tires on cold roads = less traction regardless of drive mode.

Sport tires are worse because they need more heat to grip.  Touring tires, though not very sexy, warm up to temp in cold conditions.

It’s the stock tires.  I’ve gone with Michelin Road 5s on the rear and a Michelin Pilot Power 5 on the front.  I don’t ride a lot in the cold but want tires that are there for me.  The Power 5 is a hyper sport tire that is a good wet tire.  Only been in the low 30s with it but it did fine.   Going thru Beartooth Pass in the morning so it was warm 🙂 

Had a 2012 CBR600RR with OEM Dunlap Qualifiers, not Q or QII or QIII, the rear moved around on me at 42F and a few weeks later at 70MPH in the wet with a gentle roll on in 3rd (not at peak HP).  They came off and Michelin Pilot Road 3s or 4s went on.  Much much better in cold and wet.  

On my Tracer GT I run 33 to 36 front and 40 to 42 rear.  I’ll set them to 36 and 42 but won’t bother to adjust until 2 or 3 PSI down.
