Yamaha rear rack and 39L Top Box installed.

Recommended Posts

After months of searching around and hoping the random box or rack would make its way into us inventory, LOL, I was finally able to get a top rack courtesy of a fellow 4 member (fjrchuck) and a 39 L top case courtesy of RevZilla.  Both of these items in general on indefinite backorder, at least here in the US.

Installation of the top rack is crazy easy, remove four bolts to remove the stock passenger grab rails, reuse the front two bolts and use the two new bolts provided with the top rack and you're done.  While I could have pulled the trigger on aftermarket solutions, the Yamaha rack just simply looks the best as it doesn't have any extra hardware/supports to bolt on.  I like the really clean look (I'm what you would call a bit OCD when it comes to aesthetics).

The only installation portion of the top case is installing the lock cylinder. It comes bagged separately inside the top case with two keys. This is a rekeyable cylinder, but I had a lot of trouble finding a locksmith to do it. So what I ended up doing was removing two of the five blade style tumbler pins to make my key work with it.

I wanted/went with the 39 L size because the larger one just looks too big on the bike, in my opinion. And this one will have plenty of room for what I want to use it for.  As you can see in the photo provided, it easily accepts my large size LS2 modular helmet.

Now all I have left to do is track down the Yamaha backrest pad for this case.  While this style of bike is not my wife's favorite for being a passenger, I at least want her to be comfortable on the occasional ride.

Nice setup. I have been searching for a Yamaha rear rack for ages also. Just purchased one from California that should be here in a few days. Did a search on ‘searchallofcraigslist’ and found a nearly new one…… fingers crossed it turns out as advertised.

Nice, it's such a handy thing to have on the bike!

I found a Yamaha rack from a dealer in Alberta. I then got myself a Givi b37 with the universal plate, so quick on/off the bike. It looks a little odd imo, but It's usefulness far outweighs that. It was really nice to have on my Van Island trip last summer.

Agree, My bike came with a SHAD 3 box set and for most of my days out the 39 litre top box is an ideal size. Certainly prefer it to the huge metal box my pal fits to his Tiger (on the other hand He can get a case of beer in that for our camping trips It's nice having obliging friends so please don't change it for a smaller box.)

I really like how the top case and rear rack has a nice clean OEM look. Plus, you can also order a custom lock for the top case to match your bike ignition key. So you don't need to have two different keys.

With a 50L top case you can fit two helmets though ;)
