Seat Mods ?

Recommended Posts

I got my FJ for 2 weeks now , I love this machine. The one thing I'm not too pleased with is the seat, it feels like it's pushing me forward and it is hard (to me). I was wondering if anyone else has this problem and came up with a solution ?

I wonder if I could just go and buy seat bumpers from a Super Tenere from Yamaha ? What year was your Super Tenere and it bolted right on ? Thanks
yes - you can buy the seat bumpers, but why bother when 10 seconds with a knife does the job? Make a neat job of it and you can always glue the 2 halves back together if you want to put it back to standard.
there aren't any bolts - it's a bit of rubber that pushes into a hole
This signature is left blank as the poster writes enough pretentious bollocks as it is.

I thought the same thing when I was on my first ride.  Really bothered me.  I actually bought the lowered seat, and it's 428% better.  It's got a small dip in it and it's flat, nothing pushing you forward.  However, that's an expensive option.  I know Seat Concepts dug out part of their foam to prevent this from happening, but I don't have any first hand experience with the Seat Concept seat yet.

How much? Yahama sells a "soft" seat for $275 which I found annoying. Why didn't they put the right seat on the bike from the get go?
No mfg. puts the "right" seat on any bike. When you buy a bike you should always budget for comfort items (seats and windscreens) and suspension, no matter what bike you buy. This is probably my 30th motorcycle and I learned the lesson after #5.

I beg to differ, o wise one!  My 1993 Yamaha TDM 850 came with a super-comfortable seat and that was 22 years ago!  I still have the bike, same stock seat, ride it weekly, and can't believe how much more comfortable it is than the seat my FJ-09!  I keep thinking, where is the 22 years of progress?

Sorry I don't agree , the bike the FJ09 is replacing (2001FZ1) I didn't even have to think about the seat and I rode that bike from Maine to GA, almost 80,000 miles . The FJ is a mid weight touring bike it should be set up right out of the dealer for comfort. I do agree with you on suspension though

I think a better explanation is not all seats are comfortable for all riders. I found my FJR1300 seat to be comfortable for only 45 miles so I put aftermarket on it. My FZ1 seat was a brick, so I put a Sargeant seat on it. My R1 seat was also a brick, so I did a foam mod to it. The point is, for some of us, we figure on changing the seat from the get go. My FJ seat seamed uncomfortable, but I actually like it. If it wasn't for the group buy, I would have kept it. Now the suspension will be changed, more on that later.

That is technically a "comfort" seat, not necessarily a soft seat. I am told the foam is actually firmer. :-/

Just goes to show that one seat does not fit all! I put 40k on 2 first gen Fz1's and had to have custom seats made at a local shop.

No arguing with the wise one!
