guernsey70
.......is this normal for the gearbox to be so stiff on the FJ 09? Thanks G70
Premium Member wessie Posted June 4, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted June 4, 2015 No On my Super Tenere, the gear shift got very notchy. Some gunge had got into the pivot joint on the gear shifter. It is a simple job to disassemble and grease the joint. This signature is left blank as the poster writes enough pretentious bollocks as it is. Guest rszk
If the bike is brand new, it will get better. I noticed mine improve and now that I have 2000km, it's very nice.
fullclip
Check your chain tension? Mine was so tight that the bike was under heavy tension right from the point of delivery and my dealer said yamaha Manuel states a minimal amount of play in the chain but I say bull crap because it causes wear on sprockets and the chain !! I loosened mine up as soon as I got it home and shifting improved greatly and the bike was coasting freely with no stress if you get my drift

guernsey70
I will check the grease on the gear shifter, but how much do you recommend I loosen the chain by?
fullclip
I put mine the center stand then made the adjustment to about 1 and 1/4 inches then took it for a ride. Then loosened it to a solid 1 1/4" of play. Remember when you sit on the bike all that play gets taken up.
fullclip
I don't think lube on shift post is going to play a huge part here? I would not want it bone dry either !
