Posted September 15, 2024Sep 15 At the risk of starting a firestorm of commentary about social & personal responsibility, I’ve been wondering just what kind of top speed these FJ/Tracers actually have… My 2015 FJ09 has a 2WDW reflash that eliminated the artificially low 114 mph limiter, and I’ve routinely run it up briefly into the 125 mph range since then. It was still pulling, but acceleration definitely tapers off up in those speed zones. So, on an unspecified date and time, on a totally empty stretch of private property in an unspecified city/county/state/country, in the interest of knowledge and scientific discovery, I decided the just let it eat for a mile or two and see what happened… 😇 139.6 mph appears to be the answer, which honestly surprises me.
September 16, 2024Sep 16 IIRC I maxed out around 135ish, in Mexico of course. These bikes just ain't slippery enough to get much faster.

Great roads in Mexico… I go there often. That 135 is about what I realistically expected, so I was surprised it clawed its way to just shy of 140 with stock gearing. I have the bags on, but no hand guards. I do run a CalSci shorty windscreen, which I assume helps the total aero drag a little bit by decreasing the frontal surface area… or maybe that’s not how that all works?

Yeah I don't think i've ever pushed it past 10-15 seconds at full tilt. Where you pushing 4th or 5th gear?

I clicked it into 6th, but didn’t seem to pick up anything additional. I wasn’t paying attention to the speedometer at that point, but I remember seeing 141 indicated the one time I glanced down at it… that pretty much aligns with what the GPS reading captured. I don’t think there’s anything more to get from mine…

September 17, 2024Sep 17 In autobahn I chickened out at 245kph(according to my Garmin GPS). Still some throttle left. Puig touring screen and panniers and rear seat luggage.

Each mph at that speed gets harder & harder to find… I don’t think there’s any way my FJ has another 12+ mph in it. Maybe part way with a hill and a tailwind? @Dinku - What year bike is yours? Maybe between the Euro5 motor and better aerodynamics, the new T9s are significantly faster up top than the Gen 1 FJ?
September 17, 2024Sep 17 I have the 2015 with 2WDW ECU. Akropovic exhaust and improved air filter the only other performance mods. In "A" Mode, the speedo showed 139-141 on a closed stretch of fresh pavement a few years ago. Pulled better in 5th than 6th. (Went into 6th, no real gain.) Pulled bags and tucked in behind a CAL SCI shield dropped low. I was unable to verify with GPS because of handlebar buzz. Have a GPR steering damper as the front end got wobbly at about 126 on my first try. Also added EBC pads. I'm big. 250. My guess? 135? Haven't gone there since, but know it's a solid 100 mph cruiser if it has to be. 2015 Grey FJ09 with a few tweaks, 2007 HD Street Glide - Good Bike + Good Friends = Good Day.
September 18, 2024Sep 18 Community Expert A 15 can't pull 6th gear anyway, so many add 2 teeth on the rear sprocket, 16 / 47 really livens up the entire rev range and mileage only drops a couple mpg if you care... And then you can gently bounce off the rev limiter... Never needed a steering damper if f/r balance is good, and tire selection and psi is right...
