maximNikenGT
Just saw Garmin released its new Zumo R1 Radar that gives you visual rear view of vehicles behind you and in your potential blind spots. https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/1227031 This apparently works with your cell phone or with the Zumo and Zumo XT motorcycle GPS units. MSRP is $599 not including the Zumo/Zumo XT GPS units. I’ve used Garmin’s Varia radar for my road bicycle and although it only gives you positional data through my Garmin watch via vibration alerts and visual face indicators that change color as vehicles gets closer, the information that there are vehicles coming up behind you, to me, is helpful in giving better situational awareness while riding two wheels. The Varia was $149 USD at the time of purchase. While it’s usually a good idea to increase safety the question is whether Zumo R1 is worth $599 vs. say an inflatable vest for the safety money. 1 2019 Niken GT "Motorcycles - the brand is not important, the fact that you ride is." robzilla
Interesting, might have to keep an eye out for this. Agree the price is kind of steep to test out unless Garmin or some other third party online company is willing to send us one. I have the Varia also on my road bike paired with a Garmin Edge computer and it works very well. Didn't realize it works with the Garmin watches but thats good to know. 3 hours ago, maximNikenGT said: This apparently works with your cell phone or with the Zumo and Zumo XT motorcycle GPS units. Phone compatibility for sure works. But I don't keep my phone screen on unless I'm navigating to a short location, or a pop up message comes up briefly. robzilla
Here's a great YT video of the product in action. I'm actually quite interested now, just need to find a discount code or a "friend" at Garmin 😆... From a safety aspect as compared to the Varia on the road bike, i think this might be worth checking out.
