kimdo
I read the excellent "How to" by panooch. OEM seat mod for shorter guys. Since my butt didn't like the stock seat I called Don Weber at Mr. Ed's Moto in Albany, Or. ( 541-791-5142) He sold me the foams he uses in his custom seats for about $65. [/a] Since I wanted to remove 2" of foam I set a level across the seat and used the square to measure down the 2" and marked the seat where it touched. Connect the dots for the foam to be removed. With the drill set at 2" I have a gauge for the cutting depth. [a title=" href="http://i.imgur.com/m9IhPCU.jpg][/a] Cutting foam with an electric carving knife. Down to grade. No holes visible in the center and pretty close on the outline. Trial fit with the rebond foam. This is 1" thick and firmer than the stock seat foam. [a title=" href="http://i.imgur.com/DFYFVGI.jpg][/a] Taped off and ready for 3M Super 77 spray contact cement. [a title=" href="http://i.imgur.com/q9Gxa0N.jpg][/a] Glued in and rough shaped with the electric knife and a 4 1/2" grinder with a 80d flap sander. The vice in the work mate holds the seat latch to keep the seat in place. They aren't visible but this is where I added the indentations for my "sit bones" and narrowed up the thigh area for standing at stop signs. Firm 1/2" confor foam installed and rough shaped. Now you can see the contour shaping. This is a firm density memory foam. [a title=" href="http://i.imgur.com/PkTAcq7.jpg][/a] Taped up and ready for the last layer. 1/2" of soft memory foam. Final sanding was done with a 6" random orbital sander on high speed with 80d. Followed with some hand sanding with 80d wrapped around a piece of 1X4 board. Time for the stapler. Not up to Mr. Ed's standards but my butt thanks me.

kimdo
After 850 miles in three days I can report that the seat is an improvement over stock but is definitely not all day comfort. After about 5 hours (with a break every hour) I'm starting to squirm, change position and stand on the pegs for a break. But I've never been on any seat that I didn't do that. I'm still looking. panooch
Thanks for the ride report Kim. Eventually there will be more seat options. I just wasn't unwilling to keep waiting.
