What did you do to your FJ-tracer-gt today?

My package arrived via Royal Post last week. 🧐 I felt so fancy.

I'm glad they provided an extra protector. As expected I fouled up the first one, despite taking my time and (what I thought was) meticulous pre-fitting for placement. Yeah, right. 😖 The second one applied perfectly. Only a couple small bubbles that worked right out. Nice product, looks really good and no more worries that I'll deface the OEM gauge cluster.

After that, I wheeled her out of the garage and did a nice spring cleaning. Checked fluids, tire pressures, and she fired right up, despite sitting all winter long. Battery Tender FTW. I geared up and took her for a spin and fueled her up with fresh premium. It's been months since I rode, so it was exhilarating to open her up and the glorious sound of the Black Widow exhaust put a big grin back on my face.

Which Black Widow do you have?

This is going to be close, but initial measurements indicate this will JUST clear the tank with the stock handlebar.   Rizoma 60mm bar risers...

Stay tuned for final results!

You're lowering your bars Scott?

Indeed I am.  I feel like just a little more weight on the front will make this thing perfect.  I had the tank & bodywork off today for a new air filter & APS adjustment, and realized it would be much easier to swap the risers while everything was already apart.

Putting the bodywork back on now to get final clearances & alignment sorted out...

EDIT UPDATE:

I’m really going to like this!  I have a bit of adjusting and final clearance fitting to do, but this is definitely going to work.   Feels great, and will end up just barely clearing the tank at full lock...  with the stock bar, this is as low as you can possibly go.  Perfect for what I’m looking for.

More details to come after some test riding and final adjusting.  It looks great (typical Rizoma), and as an added bonus, the key is much easier to reach.

So I have both the Puig touring (recent addition and not much time with it) as well as  the sport screen. Touring for , well, touring, and the sport for bombing around and day trips the rest of the time. Really spend more time with the sport screen on. While riding around, I would always fiddle with it. Found that if I kind of forced the bend down on the sport screen just a bit, the air seemed so much cleaner. So, today I taped off the screen, followed the OEM contour and chopped two inches off the top. Turned out great! Took it for a ride and it seems like it is just perfect!

I’ll post more details once I have it fully sorted, and have a chance to ride it a bit.  Even with the stock risers rotated to move the bars to the forward position, I’ve always wanted a bit more...  this does the trick.

I used these Rizoma risers, in the 60mm size.  They come with an optional set of spacers that you’ll definitely want to use between  the triple clamp and the bottom of the riser (you can see it under the right riser in my last photo above), as you’ll need every mm of clearance you can get.

Get the shiny bits your heart desires...

Tank clearances are very close with the stock bar, and I don’t think there is any way you could retain the hand guards with this set up.  I had to shorten the clutch pivot bolt to get clearance on the left side, otherwise it will dig big chunks of paint out of the bodywork.  Based on the little locator dot on the handlebar, I have the bars rotated up a bit more than with the stock risers, but it feels exactly right... presumably with the bars physically lower, I needed to rotate the lever angles down a bit to compensate, which is achieved nicely by pivoting the entire bar assembly up a couple of degrees.

I haven’t ridden it any distance yet, but my initial feeling is that it’s going to be a fantastic mod for me.
