com3
not as far south as it could have been, i suppose... the GF and i went for a holiday ride over xmas...trying to escape the snow, we headed south, following the geese. LA, to be precise. the long and short of it, on the return trip, about 6 miles from our destination, we hit a massive bump on the road, nearly putting the GF into my lap, and bottoming out pretty hard....followed by FJ slip-n-slide as oil exploded all over the rear tire, saddlebags, and even on her backpack she was wearing. sigh. i got her pulled over, called up my buddy, whom had my truck at his house a few miles away, and loaded it up and went home, tail between my legs. docsimple
looks like a nothing of a bump! Please keep us updated if Yamaha will cover the damage as a warranty issue. I saw they redesigned the oil pan on the 2017. This seems like recall material to me.... 2015 Red FJ 09 2013 WR250R - little boy blue - sold 2012 DL650 V Strom - sold 2007 FZ6 - sold 1986 FJ600 - sold

Premium Member ULEWZ Posted December 28, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted December 28, 2015 I believe the stock part number 1RC-13400-00-00 has been superseded by B56-13400-00-00 which I think has the plug to the side. This is the oil pan for the 2016 FJ-09. If somebody with a 2016 model could shoot a picture of the oil pan, we can confirm this new drain plug location. This place has it for only $119.06. Thats interesting, the bad design of the oil pan has always been a concern of mine. If they've just changed the location of the drain plug, it should easily be able to be retrofitted to earlier models. Would be even better if they issued a recall for it..... but i wont hold my breath on that.
hotboot
You are skilled or lucky or both, that cat took a wallop that may have launched you both into the woods. Obviously other vehicles have milled down that dangerous asphalt patch job, we see those here too. 1/2 arse work. If Yamaha gives us weird geometry and soft springs they should design a more robust bottom on this engine.

suncoaster
You should complain to the shire/county/state responsible for that road.
kimmie
Not very nice. Glad you and the GF got out unscathed.....could've been a very different ending. spicymayo
I have just bought a 2016 Canadian version. It's still in the crate until spring. I was under the impression that the 2016's had the updated drain pan. I hope it's true.
docsimple
i bet its a mixed bag which gets which. They are probably using up the old ones and phasing in the new. I've got about 26 years of dirt riding experience, 10 on the track, and about 400,000 miles of being a hooligan on the street...So, muscle memory just kicks in at that point. Haha. com3
You should complain to the shire/county/state responsible for that road. They're all on government mandated Xmas holiday. They return to their offices on Jan 4th. I'll definitely be following up with them, that's for sure. About 14 years ago, I hit a pot hole the size of new jersey in San Francisco while on my rf900... Bent rims and blew out my rear shock. Kept it upright, barely missing parked cars. Haha. The city paid for the repairs.
