papac2000
I contacted Flash Tune to inquire about support for our bikes. They informed me they do not have a bike or ECU to "read" the factory image from. The rep said they would require an ECU for about 2 weeks to extract the maps. They are in Orange, California. Wish I lived a bit closer....shipping/brokerage from Canada sux. https://ftecu.com/ 2015 Matte Grey Modded stock exhaust, modded stock screen, modded stock seat, OEM heated grips, LED indicators, FlashTuned ECU, ZX10R shock
skunkmilk
$450 seems a bit rich. Is that usually what a kit costs? Maybe I'll look in to that Bus Pirate if someone hasn't already.
papac2000
Spoke to a dealer on the West coast. He says if someone took a pic of the sticker on the ECU and sent it to them, they could check to see if the config is the same as the FZ. If so, existing FZ software package should be compatible. 2015 Matte Grey Modded stock exhaust, modded stock screen, modded stock seat, OEM heated grips, LED indicators, FlashTuned ECU, ZX10R shock

dondon
As far as I'm concerned Yamaha should pay for the reflash. I bought this bike because of the promise of better performance compared to my previous bike (which it clearly won't now). All the advertising promotions and reviews said that it was based off the FZ-09 with identical motor and drive train (135 mph+). I didn't see anywhere where anyone from Yamaha or any reviewers said " Oh yea. By the way we took [strong]20%[/strong] off the top end for the FJ just because." My disappointment won't be assuaged until this is rectified. I think all the FJ owners should complain about this. Don't just let them slide. Then maybe they will do something about it. What I got from everything I read is that the FJ-09 has the same engine as an FZ-09 but the throttle response has been smoothed out to make it less of a hooligan bike. Many bikes share engines, but not performance. Look at the Street Triple vs Daytona. Same engine, vastly different performance. If I wanted an FZ-09, I would have bought one. Cruizin
The FZ-09 pulls wheelies in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Hell, maybe even 5th. Sometimes these are unexpected. FJ-09 is a low priced Sport tourer. Many new riders will buy this bike. Many new riders have looped out their FZ-09's by mistake and landed on their asses in the middle of the road. If I owned a mega corporation I would do my best to avoid lawsuits when possible. I would also do my best to keep my customer's insurance costs down. I suspect this is playing a role here with the FJ-09 for Yamaha. Ok, me go riding now. All the reviews say "the snatchy throttle response has been smoothed out." However none I can find say that 15-20% has been taken off the top end. Why tell us one without the other? If you are going to reduce the top speed that significantly, you think it might be something people want to know before they buy, right?

Does this help? Not sure what prompted me to do so, but I compared this photo to ones in Dynojets PCV instructions for this bike. Methinks they just reused the FZ photos. They show the ECU ontop of the airbox. 2015 Matte Grey Modded stock exhaust, modded stock screen, modded stock seat, OEM heated grips, LED indicators, FlashTuned ECU, ZX10R shock

You're entitled to your opinion, I just don't think many people share it. 115mph is way faster than I'll ever go on this bike, that's instant loss of bike and license right there. Almost 200km/h in Canada. Is it even limited in Canada? Sometimes limits are country dependant. Anyway, Yamaha doesn't compare these two bikes, besides explaining the parts they share. Only the reviewers draw direct comparisons. Don't blame Yamaha because reviewers say FZ-09 a lot when they talk about the bike.
