Cost of Shipping my FJ-09 to Australia?

Recommended Posts

So yeah, in case you haven't heard, its time to move out of the US.  Anybody know approximately what it would cost to ship my bike to Australia (from the US west coast) and if it would be street legal there?

Also, I have a cat that I do not want to put in quarantine for 6 months.  Is there any way around this without getting Deppified?

Cheers (or whatever they say in Australia)!

There may be a few options regarding shipping the bike. Do you intend on permanently moving to Australia or will you be visiting for less than a year. This may influence what paperwork you need and duty fees, etc. Also there may be an issue if you have owned the bike for less than 1 year (see the link from Taurus Logistics). If you are originally from Australia and have had the bike for more than 1 year you may be in luck.

I am looking at going to meeting in Hobart in September 2017, but also visiting colleagues in agricultural research in WA, SA, VIC, NSW, and QLD and was thinking that I might like to ship my own FJ-09 over and back. Unfortunately, this will likely be prohibitively expensive versus renting. In 2012 I rented a Suzuki DR650 from Compass Expeditions in Ballan, VIC (http://www.compassexpeditions.com/). Mick from Compass in Ballan was curious as to why the DR650 was so popular with Canadians as I am from Canada and rented this bike and he had others from Canada that rented the same model. My reply was that it was the cheapest bike they had for rent with an engine size of 600 cc or higher.

Regarding the cat. Australia is known for being very strict about quarantine guidelines and likely there will be no way of getting around the requirements. This site may help. It looks like there are some steps that need to be taken and the cat may need to be in quarantine in the USA for up to 180 days and then 10 days in Australia. http://www.petrelocation.com/resources/international-regulations/australia

yeah, so sell the bike and buy the same one there is probably a better idea.
as far as the cat, 10 days isn't the end of the world (he'll still remember me after that long).  I guess my only other major hangup would be how to get the cat there. Last time I went to AUS 20 some years it ago it was a 20 hour flight which is a lot of stress for a cat to go through only then to be tossed in a cage for 10 days.

Not so much that "my" candidate lost (I've never voted in a presidential election in my life and Carter was president when I was born, to put it in perspective) since I didn't have one but more so that the one they elected is going to take away the only health care I've ever had, which I've grown quite fond of over the last 5 years...
Its much harder to be happy and enjoy life when managing chronic illness is the only hobby you're afforded.

I was poking at the idea of shipping my fj-09 downunda for the winter. I found a shipping company out of Vancouver called World Cargo. They quoted me $1135usd and approx 35days at sea from Vancouver Canada to an non-specific Australian port. Price does not include insurance.
