Corbin Ride-In Custom Seat Build Review

Recommended Posts

Rode up to Corbin in Hollister, CA from SoCal. I knew the off the shelf online seat wouldn't be high enough for me for my desired seat to peg leg room. Took advantage of Corbin's Ride-In Custom seat build. My brother came along to have a seat made for his Super Tenere. The experience and seat far exceeded my expectations. Rolled in at 08:00 and Gustavo met me and asked what I wanted. Told me he was at my disposal and if it took all day to get the seat right, no problem. I could test ride it before covering as much as I wanted. Gave me a detailed tour of the factory and I watched my seat pan being made and thereafter the foaming process. Was told I can walk around unescorted if I wish and to feel free to ask anyone questions. He nailed the shape and height on the first go around. There is a restaurant on site. Large showroom sitting area. Mike Corbin, the owner came around a chatted not only with his employees, but also the other 4 Ride-In Customers. My seat was done by 14:00 and my Brother's by 16:00. Following did two 300 plus mile days and can't be more pleased with the seat. My brother feels the same about his. And Corbin will ship your OEM seat that you rode in on back home for $15!!.

Great customer service, Great Seat. Great Value. And all for the same price as ordering online. Plus, was a really fun 4 Day Road Trip.

It's good to hear that a company still knows who the customer is, and will treat you properly. You might hear some of us older folks blabber on about how stores, companies and the like used to care about people and doing right by them. This is an example of what we ramble on about. I assume you also thought their employees were well skilled and reasonably happy with their task.

The seat looks great - what was the final cost?

Your comments absolutely mirror how I feel. The guy who built my seat has been with Corbin 23 years. The guy who did my brother's seat, 25 years. I talked with several employees and all were not only happy to be working there, but were obviously proud of their company. Mike Corbin mentioned to my brother that they don't really have any supervisors as everyone knows their job and what's expected of them and most employees are cross trained to do most of the factory tasks.
As I said, the experience was completely unexpected. I sort of thought that it would be an impersonal, assembly line day. Far from it.

I paid $452, same as ordering online.

Did ya tell them to become a vendor so we could get some deals? lol Yes, Corbin's quality is totally because of the way they treat their employees. No boss is best boss.

So your new Corbin seat is a one piece seat replacing your stock two piece seat? So the latch to get the stock front seat off does nothing now. Interesting.

Yes. One piece seat replacing stock seats. Height adjustment OEM plastic piece is not used. No attachment hardware is exchanged. The new seat snaps into place and is a more secure and solid fit than my OEM.

I'm glad you had such a great experience. It was the opposite of my experience. I guess it's easier to ignore a customer when they are two states away and the company doesn't have to see the customers face. I'm two months into a return after getting a ripped seat, with heating electronics in the wrong spot. Still haven't gotten my replacement, no contact from the company, but I know it's been received by them. I try and call them and get put on hold, no one ever picks up. I'll be posting my full review with times, dates, and photos, once this "issue" is resolved. I know one thing... I'll never buy another Corbin seat as long as I ride.

wallycycle - Is it possible you might have a contact at Corbin now through whom you could run some interference for a fellow forum member (joeszup), and see if if some wires got crossed up here? It just seems so incongruous for the two stories to involve the same company. If your experience is really representative, they should be glad to clear this up. If I have my hound up the wrong tree, sorry.

I'm sorry to hear about joeszup's experience. When I encounter this kind of an issue, I always go to the desk where the "buck should stop". If it was me, I would communicate directly with Mike Corbin and supply him with all the issues and documentation. If the phone reception will not connect you or allow you to leave him a message, I see he is on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/mike.corbin.777). I would be surprised if he didn't get it sorted.
