My Madstad Install, December 2016

I'm new on the forum but I figured I'd throw in my 2 cents. I have had two Madstads in the past. One on a KLR650 and another on my recently traded in Tiger XRx. They are awesome. I just ordered one for my newly acquired 2017 FJ-09. I don't even bother looking at other windscreens anymore. Yes, I agree, some of them are not pretty but they sure do work. At my station in life functions rules over form. Thanks for listening.

My solution to the problem of the Madstad windshield hitting the hand guards was to replace them with much more effective KTM ADV units. Better fit, much better hand protection, much better looking!

Did you paint your ktm handguards? Mine are like half gloss where yours look uniformily matte

Yes. I roughed them up a bit and used a matt black rattle can. Worked fine.

By the way, if you also have a mat finished bike, I have3 found a product called Top Coat works really well to "Schine" it up and repel grung. Once that is done you can wash the bike with plain water! Good stuff.

HI all.  A quick question on the Madstad screens.

I typically use a short / sport screen for everyday use but like a larger touring screen for longer rides.

How long would you say it would take to either install or remove a Madstad screen including the special mounting hardware?  Is it a half beer project, two beers, or what?  An hour or more is probably too much hassle for me.

Thanks in advance.  Dan.

Old post I know but probably 20-30 minutes once you have done it a couple of times.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up just going for it and yes you are correct, one can swap out screens in less than 30 minutes. I have a Puig sport screen that I use mostly in the summer months, but switch back to Madstad for the longer rides.
