jumpjet
Anyone doing any rides this weekend? Hey jumpjet, I'm a little tied up this weekend but pick a day and perhaps a cruise to PCH?... or where did you have in mind? Any day Sun -fri works for me. Friday or Sunday works for me. PCH sounds good. I should be able to make it one of those days but I'll have to play it by ear and let you know later in the week.

jsp
I see you stopped at the Mountain Top Café for lunch. Then the Big Pine Hiway, but I'm not sure after that, you were going way too fast. john
Premium Member chadman Posted June 12, 2017 Author Premium Member Share Posted June 12, 2017 HAHAHA. We basically took the 138 to the 14 back into LA. In hindsight, we should have just gone back over Crest on the way home. The valley floor was way too hot. jsp
I am very familiar with the Big Pines Hiway and Mt Emma. We go through there a few times a year when we are heading north. Probably go through there next month on the way to Laguna Seca. Thanks guys. john
Premium Member chadman Posted June 12, 2017 Author Premium Member Share Posted June 12, 2017 Yup! This naughty photo from my twin turbo z is from Mount Emma. Had I not been killed by the heat in Palmcaster I totally would have been up for that. Well, that and I got a nasty, ride-ruining phone call while on Big Pines that kinda ended my fun, but we won't talk about that. jsp
On July 6, we will be going thru Big Pine Hiway, Mt Emma, and Pine Mountain. Then across 58 to Paso Robles. john
jsp
I forgot the 229 into Creston. It's a 6 mile roller coaster that's an absolute blast. This is a must do section. john
3banger
Hey I'll will be in the North LA area next Sunday to pick up an FJ and ride back to CO. Was thinking of riding the Crest back twords Victorville. Should have the bike and be ready to ride some time between 11 & 12 ish. My plan is to kill a bit of time to brake her in right before hitting the super slab so I can get through Vegas maybe closer to sunset. Anybody interested in joining me next Sunday? rickrides
Hey chapman, Can I bump into this thread to ask a question? Every year I go to the races with a friend. Being an east coster, we go to Road Atlanta, or Watkins Glen etc. But I always think Laguna Seca would be a lot of fun. Pics suggest it is a near perfect track for actually being able to see the cars race (rather than trying to look over the guard rails). Can a person actually afford to fly in to Laguna area and actually afford the motels around there? What kind of investment would be required for a long weekend there?During race weekends hotels in Monterey, the closest city, get nuts $$$. I haven't been up to the races in about five years--went to MotoGP before they quit using Laguna Seca. But when I went we stayed in Salinas, which is an inland town not far from the track (and actually has better access to the track than coming in from Monterey). Salinas hotels are a bit more reasonable but still not really cheap. There are some hotels in towns up the coast from Monterey, like Seaside. Take a look at a map. But I'm not aware of anything nice. Also, book ahead by a couple of months if you're coming. Weather at Laguna Seca can be odd--foggy in the am and then sun, in July. But it is a GREAT track to watch a race. Sitting uo on the hill you can get close to "the Corkscrew" or move around the other side and take in over half the track.
