Premium Member keithu Posted December 1, 2017 Premium Member Share Posted December 1, 2017 I always liked the Buell Thunderbolt, it'd be fun to have one as a second bike. When I wrote for a motorcycle magazine I had a '96 S1 Lightning test bike for a week. It was great fun when pieces weren't falling off of it. Supporting Member texscottyd Posted December 1, 2017 Supporting Member Share Posted December 1, 2017 @metallion - How do you like the Sprint GT? I seriously considered one, but ended up just stalling for a few years until the FJ appeared. The Triumph seemed like a really nice bike... LaFartessa
I always liked the Buell Thunderbolt, it'd be fun to have one as a second bike. When I wrote for a motorcycle magazine I had a '96 S1 Lightning test bike for a week. It was great fun when pieces weren't falling off of it. I owned a '98 Blaze Orange/Nuclear Blue (notice a pattern?) S1 with a Mikuni HSR 45 and V&H exhaust; called it 'Torquemada'. I loved that bike, I hated that bike, I loved that bike... Currently have a Wee Strom in addition to the FJ. Hoping to trade the Wee to a Versys 300 or a WR250 come spring.[span][/span]
metallion
I always liked the Buell Thunderbolt, it'd be fun to have one as a second bike. When I wrote for a motorcycle magazine I had a '96 S1 Lightning test bike for a week. It was great fun when pieces weren't falling off of it. I know exactly what you mean about pieces falling off. Over the 15 yrs i've owned my Thunderbolt i have replaced a couple turn signal lights, a couple tail light lenses, rear license plate bracket, as well as repaired cracks in the front fender and side fairing. All results from the HD vibration. The Thunderbolt used to be my touring bike back when all my bikes were Buell's. It has since been retired from touring in favor of more smoother comfortable bikes for long trips. I still very much enjoy it as a daily rider though. 2019 Tracer 900 GT. 2022 MT-09SP. 2002 Buell S3T Thunderbolt. 2016 FJ-09 SOLD. 2019 XSR900 SOLD. Tusk
In 1989 I purchased a 1988 Honda Hawk GT. It's sleeping in the basement for the winter, but I fired it up this past weekend. I still love it and my wife (thankfully) won't let me get rid of it. I also have a 2007 FJR. Bought for a song and a busted transmission. I replaced the gears and still ride as much as I can. Although the FJ-09 has stolen my heart, so the FJR may go in the spring. My wife rides a 2014 Honda CTX700 DCT. Really neat bike! The Dual Clutch Transmission is really slick and fun! It's very smooth, has adequate power, great headlights, gets great mileage, and has alot of storage with the trunk and side cases. From what i've read it's not as sporty as the earlier ST model it replaced but serves the purpose i use it for and is surprisingly easy to ride. In a few years if i want to advance to a heavier, larger and more modern bike with some gizmo's i can possibly see either a Trophy or a FJR1300 but for now it's a keeper. 2019 Tracer 900 GT. 2022 MT-09SP. 2002 Buell S3T Thunderbolt. 2016 FJ-09 SOLD. 2019 XSR900 SOLD.
