Farkling in Progress

Recommended Posts

So far I've added a few farkles to personalize my FJ. Pazzo levers, Woodhead sliders, and this weekend, a Stebel air horn, Graves fender eliminator, and Hyperlites. I typically add these to all of my bikes, and now the FJ is getting closer to feeling familiar. Next on the agenda is the suspension, followed by a different wind-screen. Once I get the suspension addressed, I may spring for a light bar as well.
Adding the Graves fender eliminator was pretty straight forward. Even though it was specked for an FZ, I used a few of the stand-off washers from the factory assembly to get spacing needed to clear the fender.

The Hyperlites were a piece of cake. I've been adding these to my street bikes ever since I chased a fellow that had them on his bike years ago. They really grab your attention and riding in a large metropolitan area, every little bit helps...

The Stebel air horn turned out to be a-bit of a chore due to lack of space on the FJ. I ended up separating the compressor from the horn. I used a Dremel to cut away the excess plastic from the horn, where the compressor was previously mounted. I mounted the compressor under the seat bracket and ran a piece of vacuum line tubing to the horn, then mounted it underneath the gas tank. I really like the way these horns will get a drivers attention.

@rsquared looking good. I used the Yoshimura FZ-09 fender eliminator. It looks pretty similar. It doesn't have any clearing issues, and the signal brackets are detachable (which works well for me because I mounted signals a different way), but your setup looks just as good. Well, except those bulbous orange turn signals ;) gotta get some sleek LED's.

The air horn is ambitious. That's a cool placement. Their website says to mount the compressor vertically or the horn may stop working after a while. You seem to have experience with them though, is that not true?

There's a horn? ;)  Never seem to need it, and if I did, I would have to look for it.  Most of the time it is real easy to avoid the cars, either by slowing or just moving over, and/or staying ahead of them.  I feel by the time I'm honking, it is too late and lastly I hate horn honking, it is like giving someone the middle finger, unless they do something really stupid or you need to make then aware of something that might save a life.  Now take note that I live in the wild west, northwest that is and the only people here that honk are alien (to the NW). ;)
Good post and pics, keep us posted with other mods.

Did you get the Pazzo short or long levers, hard to tell with no comparison. I will be ordering mine from pjparts.com

Fig Jam Oh-nine, I believe the reason for mounting vertically is to prevent water from getting into the suction of the compressor. (I could be wrong) Of the two I've mounted, they were not exposed to where they would get water into the suction piece of plastic running down the side, and have yet to have a failure. Hopefully the location on the FJ will keep water out as well, time will tell.

redfjniner, Picture a concrete divider to your left and a less than focused motorist on the right starting to drift into your lane. It's air horn time...

 scout18, Thanks.
