FJ-09 on dirt?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had any experience with taking this bike on forest roads (poorly paved) or a pretty flat dirt road?  I wouldn't go "off-roading", but slowly going down some of these roads would appear.  I know the suspension travel isn't that great, but I was also looking at the CB500X which is really a 90/10 bike (road/dirt).   Thoughts?

I'll be riding gravel and dirt roads with my FJ. As a matter of fact it is sportin hiking boots... http://i.imgur.com/I8XBMi8.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/NRNDNRv.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/H2Fohkm.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/UlA942J.jpg

And pretty soon our Supporting Vendor "Moto Machines" will be selling a Skid plate and engine guard.

Skid plate would be phenomenal! Yea, I know the CB500X comes with some 90/10 tires for that reason, although neither is a true adventure bike. But a little more offroad grip couldn't hurt. I don't plan to do too many miles in the dirt, but it's nice to cruise down off the beaten path sometimes.

how do the TKC's work on the FJ?  I loved them on my GS.  You might also try a front TKC and a rear Tourance or Anakee

If anyone ever plans on taking an extended trip to anywhere, chances are you're going to end up in the dirt whether you like it or not.   It was HILARIOUS to see guys on Harley's, FJR's and BMW touring bikes $hitting themselves when having to navigate a sandwash....

I'm still a month and a half away from riding with the TKC80s. My driveway won't be ice free until April. I would put K60s on if they were made in the right size for the FJ, love them on my Super Tenere. Best tire for the kind of riding I do here locally.

I am sure somebody like Woody's Wheels could put a set together for the right amount of money.

I've had the FJ on a few miles of dirt and because of the relatively light weight it's manageable but the suspension is brutal if the surface gets rough.  I wouldn't consider the FJ for any extended travel on dirt - not fun.
I agree. It wasn't very comfortable down a single track, asphalt road which has grass growing in the middle. I will have to recalibrate my internal satnav about the roads I choose to travel on compared to when riding my last two bikes, the R1150GS and XT1200Z.
This signature is left blank as the poster writes enough pretentious bollocks as it is.

I imagine it behaves like the Super Tenere... when the rear tire loses traction the traction control manages the throttle and fueling to stop wheel spin. Turn traction control off and everything is fine. With the Super Tenere the traction control will stop you in your tracks in loose terrain.
