New Member.. can't think of anything original

I'm between bikes at the moment, my last being a 2011 BMW F800ST. Life changes forced me to sell it. I've been looking about at bikes and recently discovered an article on the Tracer 900 GT. It ticked off everything I've been looking for with the exception of being chain drive, I can live with that. Whether I wait long enough to buy the Tracer or go for the FJ-09 remains to be seen.
Oh yeah, in case you're wondering my avatar is that of a real MC. Only 2 conditions to be a member, first you must ride. second you have to have worked at least 4 consecutive months in Antarctica. I have a total of 32 months there so far.
I'm looking forward to learning and finding out a lot more about this bike and forum
Cheers

Heaps here in Oz @ $10,990 otd, with hard panniers.   I paid $15,300 for my first MT and thought that was a smiley.png pretty good deal!

I work as a facilities electrician at McMurdo Station. Depending on my contract I can be there from 4-6 months. What's nice about my job is I get to travel around to various field sites. This allows me to see more of Antarctica than the usual employee. You don't have to be crazy to work there, we can train you.

Nothing original to say?? Living / working on the bottom of the planet is pretty original if you ask me! Feel free to share stories as you please. Your career is very intriguing.

Buddy that rode with me to Prudhoe Bay might qualify for the avatar. Was there while in the Navy. We were discussing what outlying camps he made it to and remember him saying "Was at South Pole for a week and the people there were even weirder than the people at McMurdo". He's also said that since he's been to the edge the flat earther conspiracy types are always claiming exists he deserves a bribe as he's never spoken of it to anyone. :D

Hah! I can completely relate to your buddy. I've made 4 trips to the pole but some of my most proud trips were to WAIS Divide and the Pine Island Glacier. A friend gave me grief about not being more excited at going to 'the south pole'. In the grand scheme of things about 11,000 people have been to the south pole now. Granted a very small number, but at WAIS only about 350 people have been there. When setting up the camp at the Pine Island Glacier (aka PIG) at the time more people had been to the moon. Damn what do you think you'd be more jazzed about?

Feel free to throw some stories up in Ride Reports. That's where we log our adventures. While your stories aren't ride reports necessarily, they are adventurous for sure!

There are improvements in the Tracer, they say... but just keep in mind that even as the 2015-17 owners on here have upgraded our machines, we don't have universal agreement on our aftermarket choices and fixes... so I suspect that the Tracer won't be a fit-all proposition either. A leftover 2015-17 could be a much better value if the Tracer doesn't quite feel great when you test ride it. It does have a longer wheelbase, so should hold the line a bit better. Can't go wrong with either option really.
Oh, and welcome!

Yesterday I stopped by a local dealer and was looking at a '17 FJ 09. I like what I saw. I could buy it and live with it very happily. Damn all this does is make me indecisive on which I want. I may just end up flipping a nickel and go with its recommendations ;)
