Quick shifter

Recommended Posts

I am wondering how do you guys like the quick shifter on the Tracer GT and how do you operate it. I am finding out that its function is rather rough and needs some practice to make it work smooth. The idea of shifting with it under full gas is, in my opinion, out of question, unless you want to ruin your gearbox in short time.

In my experience, the only way to make it work smoothly is to kind of level out the RPMs so that you are not accelerating much, before shifting to higher gear. I still use clutch when shifting into 2nd and often when going to 6th.

I am wondering as well if there is any adjustment on the QS rod, I do not see any moving part on it, so I am curious what kind of sensor is there...

But that is exactly the point of a quick-shifter ...

On low rpm's and on lower gears (1st and 2nd) the quick shifter doesn't work (smoothly). On high rpm's and higher gears it is a joy to use while keeping the throttle open.

It's a joy, I use the QS above 6k rpms, it feels much smoother after 8k rpms... There is adjustment in rod length just like the normal set up... The sensor is a "strain gauge" type...

I personally have used the QS under 7k rpms but I apply just a peck of pressure on the clutch lever to help smooth out the gear change...

Glad to read the responses as I've been considering an upgrade. Think I'll pass if they need help under 7k. While most of the times I'd want to use it I'll be in that range with the triple it isn't always the case.

They can be used below 7k rpms, it's a personal preference.. It's just the "kill time" for IGN is not self adjusting for RPMs which leads to the hard shifting feeling... I have used QS with the ability to adjust the timing at home and found it to be a helluva rabbit hole and always worse than what default settings was...

I actually skip 1st gear, it's too close in MPH to 2nd gear... I Take off in 2nd gear unless I'm at the drag strip which I will use 1st gear...

Straight from the manual: (page 4-24) "It (QS) does not operate when the clutch lever is pulled." Your "peck" of pressure turns it into a smooth yet "normal" shift.
This is my first bike with a QS. I only remember to use it about 50% of the time. But it is very nice indeed when accelerating.
