Rust

Recommended Posts

Yep. UK roads use a lot of salt and I ride all year round. Some rust areas are not an issue, like bits at the top of the mirror stalks. Some that are more worrying, like under the fuel tank. And some that were an absolute pain, like the exhaust header nuts, that sheared off a stud and required tapping the head to replace it.

Watch out for your oil cooler. I've heard many Brit's complaining about their oil coolers corroding away. Doesn't seem to be an issue in the US though, even in salt states.

I've got a scattering all over, particularly the header brackets and nuts and the big nut in the centre of the oil heat exchanger, plus some corrosion on most of the lower crankcase bolt heads.

When I have the time, after washing I go around with ACF50 and apply with an old toothbrush to all areas, also the clips around the radiator pipes

I don't have any rust (that I'm aware of).

Me either.  I do a fair bit of tinkering on my bike and I'm pretty good at looking out for irregularities.  I haven't noticed any rust.
