coffeeaddictm
Hi there, Looking at a private party sale for a higher mileage FJ09 here in the Midwest US- (46k) I read that the valves start having issues around this point in time. I'm having some pretty serious qualms about it after reading about the quality control on yamaha's triple motors (tight valves) and it seems like it's just about due for a 48k service... Are there any other major qualms i should be having ahead of this?
tktplz
I know there was a high mileage thread somewhere on here.......Guys had more than 100,000 miles on the FJ, 2015's too. Seems there are plenty out there without any problems. I wouldn't be jaded on it. Look at the condition of the bike and decide on what the bike is worth to you and make an offer. Like I said. There are a good number out there with over 100,000 miles. 2 Ain't no fun when the rabbit gets the gun!

I’m not going to waste a bunch of time trying to convince you otherwise. However i will point out that it’s called “ maintenance ”. All motorcycles require it and many engines need valve adjustments after a period of time and not just the CP3 motors. Many bikes produced today are consumer versions of motorcycle race engines, very high performance machines, and they need a bit of love to perform at their best. They’re not like a car that you can pretty much ignore until the oil light comes on and the tires fall off. Check the valves every 20-25k miles, and don’t worry about it. good luck with your decision. -Skip Edited July 14, 2019 by skipperT
koth442
So long as the valves were adjusted on schedule you'll be fine. '15 FJ09
angrygirafe
I’m curious where you read about the valve issues? Yes, lots of reports of tight valves at the first service, followed by them being adjusted. I’m just over 44k miles on mine. Got back from a 600 mile weekend this afternoon; top case, side cases, tank bag and wife. The FJ pulled them all along at as fast a speed as I thought I could get away with.
Premium Member micah2074 Posted July 16, 2019 Premium Member Share Posted July 16, 2019 60k miles on my 2015. There are others on here with much more. I've went through 2 valve checks and both were within spec. I did a 1k trip this weekend with the wife on back and luggage and without hesitation I'm about to do a 6k trip in august. 4 Let’s go Brandon
